NEXT MEETING DECEMBER 11, 1986
The November 12, 1986 meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation
Commission was held at Town Hall, 20 Middlebush Road, Town of Wappinger, Dutchess
County, New York.
The meeting was calledto order at 8:00 P.M. with the following persons
present: Ralph Holt, Chairman, Robert Blose, Director, and Commission Members
Ellen Korz, Hugh J. Maurer, Herb Stoller, and William Wood.
The minutes of the September 11, 1986 meeting were approved on a motion
by Mr. Wood seconded by Mr. Stoller with all in favor.
CHELSEA PLAYGROUND
Barbara Montross, Summer Director of the Chelsea Playground for many years
attended the meeting to discuss the following letter that was received from the
Chelsea Fire District.
September 15, 1986
Mr. Robert Blose
Recreation Commission
Town of Wappinger
Wappingers Falls, New York
Dear Sir:
Please be advised that the Board of Fire Commissioners has decided to
restrict use of the School to District affairs and Town of Wappinger voting.
Therefore, in line with this ruling, it will not be possible to allow the summer
program to be held there in the future. We would appreciate your arranging to
remove playground equipment from the grounds, and also any Recreation equipment
inside the building. Thank you.

Miss Montross mentioned that she had attended a Fire District meeting on
November 10th along with Mr. Reis of the Town Board and many residents of the area.
Miss Montross mentioned that many of the residents were "up in arms against the
closing". At this meeting they were told by the Commissioners that they were only
thinking of expansion at this time and that no definate plans had been made at this
point. Miss Montross mentioned that a letter would probably be coming to us recinding
the above letter and that the playground would be open as usual.
It was decided that before any major work is done at that playground, that
we find out what the Fire District is planning and how long we would be able to
continue our program at that site.
Mr. Holt thanked Miss Montross for coming and discussing this with us.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Mr. Blose reported that the Winter programs already underway are:
Exercise & Volleyball - Monday and Friday at Myers Corners School
Aerobics - Wednesday at Myers Corners School
Volleyball - Monday at Wappinger Jr. High
Basketball - Wednesday at Wappinger Jr. High
He mentioned that the Exercise and Volleyball program had a very light
attendance and might be cut back to one night. The rest of the programs have a
good attendance.
SENIOR CITIZEN EXERCISE PROGRAM
It was decided that we should go ahead with the Senior Exercise Program.
Mr. Blose said the program would probably be held at the K. of C. with the basic
type of exercises. Mr. Holt felt we should work with the Dutchess Co. Senior
Citizen Association and our lawyer to get ourselves covered and to notify Mrs.
Paino to sign the contract.
CHRISTMAS TREE
Mr~ Maurer mentioned he might be able to obtain a 45-55' tree for
Sch1athaus Park. He has contacted Lewis Nursery about moving it. If they are
not able, it will be topped and then moved to the Park for the Christmas Party.
Mr. Holt mentioned he had spoken to Mr. Reis regarding lights for tbe tree and
that we would need approximately 15 sets. If we don't hear from Mr. Reis by the
24th we will have to buy them.
SCHIATHAUS PARK
Plans are still being made for the ice skating rink at the Park. It is
hoped that a grader can be sent over soon to grade off the area. The secretary will
contact New Hackensack Fire Company to see if they would be willing to help us by
flooding the area several times until it is ready for use and also to flood it once
a week to smooth it out.

SCHLATHAUS PARK CON' T
The old stump by All Angels Hill Road has fallen down and it was suggested
that the Secretary contact "Mike" of D. Silvestri and Sons to disconnect the electric
on the stump and place a ha10genic light on the existing pole. We should request
that he hook up 220 to the pole on the West side of the Park by Diesing's.
CHRISTMAS PARTY
Mr. Blose mentioned that the R. C. Ketcham Brass Ensemble will be playing
at the Tree Lighting Ceremony. Mrs. Korz is still working on getting a choral
group. She might have either John Jay Chorus or the New Hackensack Reformed Church
Choir. Mr. Holt mentioned that the songs should be done with children in mind.
The party will be held December 7th with a raindate of December 14th and
is planned to start at 6:00 P.M. Invitations will be given to Town Employees and
Town Board Members.
Mrs. Korz has spoken with someone from the Jewish Temple regarding a
Hanukah ceremony. She was given the name of a woman from the Jewish Community
Center who would be willing to put on a 1/2 hour program on Sunday, Dec. 28th for
$150.00. After a discussion the Commission voted not to pay someone to do this
ceremony. Mrs. Korz will check further into this and see if she can get a
volunteer.
BUDGET REVIEW
A review of the budget and work completed revealed several jobs that
are still not completed. There is also money left for several fencing jobs.
Mr. Wood noted that money was still in the budget for the repair of the
dugout for Big Boy Field. Mr. Maurer mentioned that he was unable to contact anyone
to do the work since they were already booked up. It was suggested that we contact
Mr. Wor~hman and mention that if he could get someone to do the work we would pay for
the materials. The clay still has to be delivered to Robinson Lane. Some first
aid kits will be ordered to be put on the tractors and if there is money, some for
the playgrounds. A supply of sting-kill will be ordered.
Two fencing jobs will be done - 1. Turkey wire fence along the ditch by
the instructional field and 2. Fencing along the Little Girls Field. Mr. Maurer
will contact A-1 Fence Co.
The meeting adjourned at 9:05 on a motion by Mr. Wood seconded by Mr. Maurer.
