The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation
Commission was held May 12, 1988 at Town Hall, 20 Middlebush
Road, Town of Wappinger, Dutchess County, New York.
Mr. Holt opened the meeting at 7:35 with the following
persons present: Ralph J. Holt, Chairman, Bernie Reimer,
Director, and Commission Members Ellen Korz, William Wood,
Joseph Mastroianni, and Hugh J. Maurer.
A group of residents from the Chelsea Area attended the
meeting to discuss the future of the Chelsea Summer Program.
A few of the residents were: Ruth Francese, Donna Sowul,
Linda Taft, and our Playground Director from 1987 Barbara
Montross. They all expressed concern about our holding the
Summer Program on the property adjacent to the Schoolhouse
since the Fire Commissioners have recently advised us that we
would be unable to use the building. Because of a recent
fire truck purchase they have to move their offices and
computers to the Schoolhouse. The residents felt that the
area was too small and were concerned with rest room
faciities and water. They felt that we were getting one
story and they were getting another. At the end of the
discussion it was decided that the Commission would write a
letter to the Commissioners requesting that the 3 groups get
together to discuss the matter.
An additional item that was brought up was that they
considered Castle Point an unsuitable site for a future
Summer Playground.
The minutes of the April 13, 1988 meeting were approved
on a motion by Mr. Wood seconded by Mrs. Korz. All in favor.
A letter was received from the New Hackensack Fire
Company requesting permission to use the Sachlathau5 Park for
parking during their Annual Bavarian Festival on June 10, 11,
and 12th. Mr. Wood made a motion to grant them permission
seconded by Mr. Holt. It was mentioned that we should mark
off the newly seeded area and the wet area so they wil not
use it.
