TOWN OF WAPPINGER RECREATION
MINUTES DECEMBER 8, 1988
NEXT MEETING JANUARY 19, 1989 AT BARN AT 7:30 P.M.
The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation
Commission was held December 8, 1988 at Town Hall, Middlebush Road, Town of
Wappinger, Dutchess County, New York.
Mr. Holt opened the meeting at 7:30 with the following
persons present: Ralph J. Holt, Chairman, Bernie Reimer, Director, Commission
Members Ellen Korz, Hugh J. Maurer, Joseph Mastroianni, Bill Wood and
Maintenance Supervisor John Vorndran. Herb Stoller arrived at 7:48.
CORRESPONDENCE
A letter was received from the Dutchess County Youth
Bureau stating that our 1989 State Division grant will be $15,000.
A letter was received from John Doyle, Executive Director
of the Heritage Task Force for the Hudson River Valley, Inc. requesting by
December 31, 1988 the status of the 1986 $1,000. Community Project Grant for the
Chelsea Boat Ramp. It was requested that Mr. Wood draft a letter stating that
the docks have been built but that we are experiencing some problems regarding
the tie downs. We are therefore asking for an extension of time on this project.
We will discuss this further in January.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Mr. Reimer mentioned that the new signs for Brexel-Schlathaus
Park are finished and requested that Mr. Vorndran pick them up at Hughes Signs
as soon as possible.
The West Point band concert might still be a possibility. Mr.
Reimer spoke with them and they asked for a letter to be sent requesting February
24th or March 31st. Mr. Reimer will try for February 24th. Mr. Wood mentioned
that we will have to pay overtime for the schools for the weekend date.
Mr. Reimer said that Steve Johnson, Magician still wants to
do a matinee show on March 11th for the kids. He will keep working on this
idea also.
Our last year's basketball Director Len Reed is unable to
run the program again starting in January. If anyone knows of someone for this
position, please let Mr. Reimer know.

The winter programs are going good. Although a call had been
received from Myers School regarding the conduct of some of the participants
of our program, upon checking Mr. Reimer found that it was not our people
but those from another program.
SENIOR CITIZEN
Mr. Mastroianni mentioned that the trip on December 7, 1988
to Pomona, New YOrk was successful. The party was delightful and we had a full
bus of Seniors attending.
REESE PARK
Mr. Mastroianni mentioned that he met with Glenn Doctermann
and that he was pleased with the trail booklet that we gave him. He will be
meeting with him again soon and then we will be inviting him to speak at our
Janaury meeting..
Mr. Maurer mentioned that Mrs. Reese has complained that the
Bird Watchers are unable to get in the Park. It was felt we should try and reopen
it in the Spring. It was also suggested that a letter be written to Mrs. Reese
telling her what we have been doing and what our plans are.
LITTLE LEAGUE/ROBINSON LANE
Construction has started at Robinson Lane on the building.
We are waiting for Little League to get back with us with a layout to see what
else needs to be done. Mr. Holt mentioned that Wayne Holton is the new President
of Little League.
HERRINGTON HILLS SUBDIVISION
Mr. Wood attended the Planning Board meeting regarding
the above Subdivision and it was settled that we would take money. He
mentioned the reason for this was that two possible lots had houses, another
was part in Town of LaGrange and the rest was too hilly.
NEW LAND
Mr. Stoller mentioned that he understood that the property
owned by Jekoce Acres might be up for sale. Mr. Maurer mentioned that we had
looked in to it before and tried to get Federal and State Funds but it was too
expensive. It was decided that we would send a letter to the Jewish Community
Center about the possible sale.

SKATING RINK
Mr. Vorndran mentioned that the skating rink is in and
1/2 to 3/4 full of water. Now all we need is Cold weather.
BARN
Mr. Wood made no~ that someone is parking on the barn site
and questioned the status regarding the lot re-alignment. Mr. Holt said he
hadn't heard anything and it was suggested that a letter be sent regarding the
status.
LAWRENCE FARMS
John Lawrence is still looking for other property for
Recreation purposes instead of giving land in the above subdivision. He has
been with his engineers to study the Town Hall property. He would develope
it if it was useable. Upon finalization of this study he will get back to the
Town.
TENNIS COURT
Mr. Holt met with Martin Wylde of New York Tennis regarding
the repair of the tennis courts. We should be receiving 3 estimates. 1. to
repair all posts, 2. patching which would buy us 1 or 2 years, or 3. approximately
l5k to do the whole job.
INDOOR GOLF
Mr. Holt requested Mr. Reimer to see about getting use of
Fishkill Plains School for our indoor golf program hopefully to start in
February.
SOCCER
Mr. Holt has received a letter from the Town Board that
a workshop was scheduled for December 12, 1988 at 9:30 p.m. and that he was
unable to attend because of a prior committment. Mr. Wood has to attend the
Planning Board meeting that same night therefore he is unable to represent the
Recreation Commission. Mr. Stoller volunteered to attend for the Commission and
Mr. Holt provided him with the list of Recreation areas, size and facilities,
and a field schedule sheet from Rockingham from last year.
Two representatives from soccer were at the meeting and
Mr. Holt mentioned that he felt that this meeting should be scheduled when
all interested parties could attend including the softball representatives.

Mr. Holt noted that he felt there would be no problem with Fall soccer because
they could have exclusive use of Rockingham, Quiet Acres and 2 fields at
Robinson Lane. It was felt that no decision could be made until all parties
are contacted.
Mr. Holt mentioned again that letters will be or have been
sent to Mr. & Mrs. Sung, Charboro Realty and Mrs. McMahon. There was a
concern about whether the White property would be in the Town of Wappinger and
under the present circumstances of Mr. White's death it was felt that this was
not the proper time to approach the family regarding this. Mr. Vorndran was
asked to check out the Deer Run property and Mr. Maurer mentioned that
Moccasin Hill was too steep for any fields.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 on a motion by Mr. Maurer
seconded by Mr. Wood.
