RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES
DECEMBER 19, 1991
NEXT MEETING JANUARY 16, 1992 AT SCHLATHAUS PARK AT 7:30 P.M.
The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation
Commission was h~ld December 19, 1991 at Schl~thaus Park, All Angels Hill Road,
Town of Wappinger, Dutchess County, New York.
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Chairman Ralph
J.Holt. Others present were-~~ Director Bernie Reimer, Senior Citizen
Director Kathi DeLisa, Commission Members Ellen Korz, Hugh J. Maurer, Donald
Rider and Maintenance Supervisor John Vorndran.
The minutes of the November 21, 1991 meeting were approved
on a motion by Mr. Rider seconded by Mr. Maurer with all in favor.
CORRESPONDENCE
A letter was received from Richard W. Fiorile, Assistant
District Attorney for Dutchess County along with a copy of the Complaint of
Criminal Mischief in the fourth degree. This complaint stems from the incident
at Rockingham Park where the defendent drove his vehicle across the ballfield on
August 19, 1991. Mr. Fiorile requested that the Town send a bill or estimate
for the repair of damages. A letter was forwarded to Mr. Fiorile stating that
the estimate of damages was $75.00 but that the concern to the Town was not so
much the cost of the repairs as was the potential for injury.
A letter was received from Carolyn B. Tiebout of Annandale Tours
with some suggested tour programs for the Senior Citizens. Mrs. DeLisa noted
that she has already requested the prices on some of the trips.
A memo was received from Richard Rose, Town of Poughkeepsie,
with the results of the survey which he made on fees and charges of the various
surrounding communities for recreation.
Mr. Holt made note that the Town Board accepted the recommended
charges for programs starting January 1992.
A copy of a letter addressed to Supervisor Smith from Betsy
Brockway of the Dutchess County Youth Bureau was forwarded to us. In this letter
the D. C. Youth Bureau has recommended a grant of $7,000. in support of the Town's
recreation programs for 1992.
An article "Will your Religious Display Violate the Establishment
Clause" was given to the Commission Members for their information.

SENIOR CITIZEN REPORT
Mrs. Delisa handed out a report for the month of November which
is attached to these minutes. She also noted the following:
1. There are 157 registered at the center.
2. The Seniors decorated the tree in the gazebo with red bows.
3. She requested a platform be built to raise the T.V. There
are numerous complaints from the Seniors that they can't see the movies because
the T.V. is so low to the floor.
RECREATION DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Mr. Reimer reported the following:
1. That there has been no change in the Jr. High Gym.
2. He has spoken with Philip Fox of the Boots and Bows Square
Dance Group and Mr. Fox was very receptive to our request for the R. C. Ketcham
Cafeteria on February 28th for our receiption for the U. S. Army Band Concert.
Mr. Fox volunteered to look for another building for his group for that night.

CHRISTMAS PARTY
Mr. Holt mentioned that the Party went very well and that
approximately 700 cups of hot chocolate, cider and coffee were served with about
42 dozen doughnuts. Mr. Rider estimated that approximately 180 cars were
parked for the event. We will need to review our plans to see if we
need Santa to arrive any earlier. We need to keep the audience involved.
ROCKINGHAM
Mr. Rider asked whether we have heard anything from the
Town Board regarding the water/sewer hookup at the above. Mrs. Roe said it
was discussed at the Town Board meeting on December 16th and Supervisor Smith
was going to contact Camo regarding the water hookup. It was mentioned that
there was a moritorium on the sewer and we would probably not get approval.
AIRPORT DRIVE
Mr. Rider asked about the deed for the above property and where
we stand on this proposal. Mr. Holt mentioned that we haven't heard anything
about receiving the deed and that we are waiting for Mr. Paggi to come up with
a new layout for the fields. Once we actually get the deed there will be a lot
of work needed to get the land ready for soccer play.
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
Mr. Holt mentioned the following:
1. The fence is in by the volleyball court on Montfort Road.
2. The scrub trees and brush are being removed from the area
behind the volleyball court.
3. He spoke with Supervisor Smith about getting the wood for
doing the building by the barn from the 1991 funds. She was to get back to us
and so far we have received no word.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 on a motion by Mr. Maurer
seconded by Mr. Rider with all in favor.

DECEMBER 1991 REPORT TO RECREATION COMMISSION
SENIOR CITIZEN CENTER
November activities at the Senior Center included the
regular schedule of oil painting, exercise, line dancing,
arts/crafts, videos, cards and games. Videos shown this
month were "The Russia House," "Misery," and "Dances With
Wolves."
Many of the Center Seniors went on the trip to Woodlock
Pines, PA. on Nov. 6th. From the Senior's reports, the trip
was a big success. The Dutchess Co. Health Dept. provided a
flu clinic at the Town Hall on the 7th at a cost of $5.00
per person. On Nov. 15th, 65 Seniors dined at Steak and
Stein for their Thanksgiving Luncheon. Blood pressure
screening was provided by the Heart Assoc. on the 19th.
Brownie Troop 440 brought three food baskets to the Center
on the 21st for the Seniors. Before they left, the Brownies
sang two songs for us. And of course, there was the usual
monthly birthday party in November. Many Seniors played
Bocci this month when weather permitted.
The Center was closed Nov. 5th, Election Day, Nov. 15th
for the Thanksgiving Luncheon, Nov. 28 and 29 for
Thanksgiving.
There was an average of 34 Seniors at the Center per day
for November. There are 157 Seniors presently registered at
the Center.
ITEMS TO BE NOTED:
1. Peggy and I met with Leprecahn Tour representatives to
discuss possible trips as well as the financial mechanics
such as use of vouchers, deposits, etc.
2. The tree in the gazebo has been decorated with lights.
The Seniors completed the decoration with red bows.
3. Carolyn Tiebout of Annadale Tours provided a sample list
of tours to review. I have spoken with her and requested
prices on several of these trips.
4. December events include the Christmas luncheon at Villa
Borghese on the 6th, the monthly birthday party on the 13th,
blood pressure screening on the 17th, our Christmas party on
the 20th. Painting will be cancelled Dec. 10, 17 and 24th.
ISSUES TO BE DISCUSSED:
1. I have interviewed and recommended Rose Mulato to be
hired by the Town to act as a Part Time Activities Teacher
as of January 1992. Also because of her experience with
aerobics and dance, she would take over the duties of
exercise and dance teacher 2 mornings a week. Rose will
work part time, teaching crafts, relieving Regina on her
days off and filling in when needed. Rose is a qualified
aerobics and dance teacher. I have encouraged her to submit
new dance and music programs to me that would be of interest
to the Seniors. Hopefully, with the three of us, we will
bring more diversified activities to the Seniors. Any
suggestions are more than welcome.
2. Is it possible to build a platform or something to raise
the TV? This would make video viewing much easier.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
HAPPY HANUKKAH!!!
December is upon us and with it an abundance of parties!
We start with our Christmas Luncheon on Dec. 6th at Villa
Borghese. All money and reservations must be in no later
than noon, Tuesday, Dec. 3rd. There will be no refunds if
you cancel at the last minute,
The following week, Dec. 12th we will have our monthly
birthday party. This is scheduled earlier than usual due to
our busy party schedule and Christmas holiday. We will need
three cakes for this. Please see Kathi if you will
volunteer to bring one.
The next week, Dec. 20th we will have our Center
Christmas party. The party will be held in the large
meeting room as I anticipate a large crowd that day. Also,
as most have you agreed, I will be inviting the employees at
the Town Hall as a token of our appreciation for all the
support they have given us throughout the year. I have
arranged for this party to be catered with both hot and cold
dishes. However, we will need drinks and some extra
desserts. If you will volunteer to bring soda, cookies or
dessert, please see me. Your assistance and contribution of
these items will be appreciated.
So as you see, we have a busy party month ahead. Of
course there are some surprises in store. I cannot tell you
all that may happen. Can't tell all of Santa's secrets can
17 You'll just have to be there to see for yourself.
Between all these parties, there are still days to
exercise, do crafts, watch videos and play cards. And don't
forget the monthly blood pressure screening on Dec. 17th.
Exercise and line dancing will be cancelled Dec. 6, Dec. 20,
Dec. 26, and Dec. 27. The Center will be closed Christmas
Day.
As we have discussed, we will be putting a basket
together for a family going through some hard times. I hope
. . .
to have a name of a family in the next few days and will let
you know so we oan ohose the appropriate items needed to
fill the basket.
Speaking of baskets-the three baskets brought to the
Center by Brownie Troop 440 will be raffled at the Christmas
lunoheon and the Christmas party to members of the Center.
For those of you who missed this treat, the Brownies brought
three baskets of food for you Seniors. They brouSht these
to the Center on Nov. 21st. We served them some oake and
soda as they sat and talked to those that were present.
Before they left they sang two songs for us. It was a
delightful experienoe for all that were present. The
Brownies were so oute! Beoause there is not enough for
everyone, it was suggested that we raffle the baskets as a
"door prize" for Seniors attending the lunoheon and party.
The New Year will be bringing a ohange at the Center.
Beginning in January,1992 the Center will be opened on
Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
In olosing I want to wish eaoh and everyone of you a
very Happy Holiday and a healthy, Happy New Year. And a BIG
HUG FOR ALL OF YOU TOO!!!!!!
