I am hoping to improve the appearance and the function of the house at by replacing a small porch (6'x6') with a larger one. While it is clear that the distances and setbacks of the porch I am proposing to build exceed those allowed by the existing code they aren't significantly different from the porch that exists today. The depth of the porch will extend just two feet farther towards the road and the width will extend just two feet closer to the neighboring house at #87. The width of the porch will remain within that of the house itself and will not alter the setback that already exists between these two structures. As can be seen from the photographs provided with my application the setbacks of both the neighboring houses are less that of mine (and than code allows) and will still be less after construction is completed. I believe the porch that I propose will restore what is now an unattractive building to fit in harmoniously with the character and historic quality of the general area. The style of the porch will be traditional with turned spindles and pillars that support the roof that will shelter the decking. It will be just large enough to be useful for outdoor enjoyment and to beautify the house. I think the Town of Wappingers will be pleased with the result when the porch is built.
