November 14, 1995 at Schlathaus Park, All Angels Hill Road, Town of Wappinger, Dutchess
County, New York.

Committee Members James Chappas, Joseph Ennesser, Ronald Friedman, Barbara Gutzler, Ellen
Korz and Stephen Miller.
The minutes of the October 10, 1995 meeting were approved on a motion by Mr.
Friedman, seconded by Miss Gutzler with all in favor.
CORRESPONDENCE
A letter was received from Irvin Miller, Director of the Dutchess County Classic
thanking us for letting them use the Robinson Lane Recreation Area in September for their race
and for helping them prepare for the event. He noted that several new ideas had been tried for the
race and he noted that this was one of the best Classics for many of the experienced runners even
though it rained that day.
Copies of letters were received from Peter Paggi ofPaggi and Martin addressed to
Boyd Artesian Well Co., Inc., Central Hudson Gas & Electric and N. & S. Supply indicating that
their bids had been approved by the Town Board for work at the Castle Point Recreation Area.
Approval was received from Myers Comers School for the use of their facilities as
a rain site for the Halloween Party on Sunday, October 29th and for the Boys and Girls
Gymnastics Program on Saturdays starting January 6, 1996.
Notice was received from Richard Rose of the Town of Poughkeepsie Recreation
Department about 2 free workshops scheduled for November. The November 16th workshop
.Promoting Healthier Children. looked interesting and Miss Gutzler mentioned that she might be
able to attend.
Notice was received from the Town of Wappinger Planning Board with the draft
resolution of the final plat approval for the Kim and John Lawrence II Subdivision. In the
1
resolution it was stated that recreation will receive $7,500. 00($1,500 for each of 5 new building
lots). We will receive this in addition to the $25,000. Recreation fee which has been held since the
approval of Section 1.
A memo was received from Mrs. DeLisa regarding an incident that happened on
the Town bus trip to the Shawnee Playhouse on October 17th. She commended Regina Waldron,
our Town escort, for her cool, calm thinking and her ability to control 46 seniors in a crisis
situation which thankfully turned out okay. She mentioned that the bus driver and the seniors
praised and thanked Regina for her actions. Mrs. DeLisa indicated that it is because of these
unexpected problems that we feel it is important for us to have an escort accompany these trips. A
copy of this letter which explains the situation in detail will be forwarded to Supervisor Smith and
is attached to these minutes.
A letter was received from the Wappingers Central School District with the mileage
for the summer recreation runs for 1995. The letter also indicated that there was a balance owed to
the school in the amount of$4.84.

application for 1996. This application was revised to exclude the basketball program and will only
encompass the summer swim program.

purchase of a security camera.
3. Invitation to Supervisor Smith to attend the Elks Senior Christmas Party on Dec. 12th

Baisley remove it in light of how he was to prepared to do the the project even though he was not
the lowest bidder. This request was denied and we will go with the lowest bidder Red Cedar
Landscaping. As soon as he can get in there, the tree will be taken down.
2
8. Memo to Town Board members from John Vorndran requesting a leave of absence from
November 17th until approximately April 1st. This request was approved by the Town Board at
their meeting on October 23, 1995 and with Mr. Vorndran's vacation and personal time pro-rated.
His leave was to take effect November 6th.
9. Memo's were sent to the Town Planning Board requesting money in lieu ofland for the Oak
Ridge Subdivison and the Lands ofKablaoui Subdivision.
10. Thank you's were sent by Mrs. DeLisa to the following: Mark Leiberman, Fire Inspector for
his help in providing the Senior Fire Prevention program; Hughsonville Fire Company for
information on Fire Prevention for Seniors.; Mrs. V. M. Salanski for the donation of books; Mrs.
Vivian Ebe for the donation of yarn; Guy Barton, Principal of James Evans School for the
Halloween surprises.
Mr. Friedman suggested that in order to save paper and time that the
correspondence not be copied for all the Committee Members and that they just be read at the
meeting. Also the same with Mrs. DeLisa's report. This was approved by the members.
SENIOR CITIZEN REPORT
Mrs. DeLisa handed out a report on the Senior activities for the month of October.
This report is attached to these minutes.
RECREATION DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Mr. Reimer mentioned that he has heard that Amy Russell, our Summer Director,
has accepted a full time job and that we will probably need a new director in 1996. We are happy
for her but it was noted that she will be hard to replace.
He has been talking with a Denise Schirmer regarding holding a babysitting safety
course in 1996. She told him that she does one for East Fishkill and Fishkill and has had to turn
away a good number of Wappinger residents who have called to take her course. It was noted that
the New Hackensack Fire Company holds a course in the fall but they too have to turn a good
number of applicants away. Mr. Reimer was asked to write up a program stating where it will be
held, when, how many sessions, maximum number in a class, and what we would charge.
Mr. Reimer has received a request for an over 55 softball league and is trying to see
if there is any interest in such a league. If a league was formed it would consist of residents from
East Fishkill, Fishkill and Wappinger and fields will be used in all three towns.
He has talked to Bill Green, Recreation Director in East Fishkill, to ascertain how
the charging for the Southern Dutchess News has effected getting their news out and what he plans
3
to do if anything to get the information out to the residents. Mr Green mentioned that he was not
planning anything different as they also put out a flier.
Mr. Reimer reminded us that the first Radio City Christmas Show is this Saturday,
November 18th.
,
The Evergreen Chapter of the Sweet Adelines has confirmed the date of December
3rd to sing at our Tree Lighting Ceremony. Mr. Holt noted that when we set up the stage for the
entertainment we need to put up more mics.
Mr. Reimer mentioned that he has contacted West Point about a concert here in
1996 but he has not heard anything from this request.
HALLOWEEN
Mr. Holt thanked everyone who helped at the Halloween Party but it was noted
that we could have used more help. Mrs. Korz was commended for all her work in coordinating
the party. We had a lot of kids this year and we ran out of the McDonald Happy Meal buckets.
Next year we will have to think about breaking the children down into age groups. This year the
weather turned raw and cold later in the afternoon and the ground around the stage was very
muddy. A suggestion was made to hold the event inside next year. Beetle Juice did a good job
again this year but he was also cold. Mrs. Korz mentioned that she has sent out thank you's to all
the merchants who donated items for the party. It was decided that we would discuss the party in
detail at our February meeting. Miss Gutzler mentioned that the Haunted House went well but
that she would like some more adult supervision. She mentioned that we should keep the haunted
house for youngsters under the age of 12 who are accompanied by an adult because she found that
a lot of the teenagers that went through were vulgar and disrespectful. We should also stipulate
that the youngsters should be in costume to be admitted. We want to make this safe and enjoyable
for the youngsters. Another suggestion was to run the haunted house an additional weekend.
There is a lot of work put into this for only 3 hours on one day. She also thanked the maintenance
guys for all their help in setting up and cleaning up.
CHRISTMAS PARTY
We have ordered the ornaments and the candy canes for the party to be held on
December 3rd. We will obtain a P.O. for the cider, apples and we will also serve coffee, and hot
chocolate. Mrs. Roe will check with the New Hacksensack Fire Co. about bring Santa on the Fire
truck and to coordinate a driver and also try and get a radio for communication to the fire house
Little league will again give out popcorn and Mr. Chappas will check with soccer to see if they are
going to do anything. We will again have the tent with the heaters and lights. Mr. Holt
mentioned that we will have the maintenance guys rope off an area in front of the tent to keep the
crowd manageable. It was requested that everyone be there to help out.
4
SCHLATHAUS PARK
It was indicated that we need to get new signs for Schlathaus as the ones that are
there are in bad shape and are not big enough for all the messages.. Mr. Ennesser will look into
this and will speak with the zoning administrator regarding size etc. We feel that this is a
necessary avenue for advertising since the Southern Dutchess News has started charging and we
may not reach as many people as before.
SOCCER
Mr. Chappas mentioned that he was over to Airport Park and the fields were quite
wet. He mentioned that the porta johns were gone. He was told that they picked up the ones at
Airport Park instead of the ones at Rockingham Park. By the time we found out it was too late to
turn them around. Soccer gave Mr. Chappas a key to the building at Airport Park and he turned
the key over to Mr. Weber of the Maintenance. Mrs. Roe indicated that when the maintenance
guys tried to take over some paint the key wouldn't work. Mr. Chappas will check on this. Mr.
Chappas also questioned about the keys for the gates and was told that Mrs. Roe has them. He
also requested that someone meet withhim to consider filling in some of the holes and dips in the
field areas.
DOCKS
Mr. Ennesser reported that all the signs for the docks and the roadways are in and
are up at the barn. He also noted that when the maintenance guys start to slow down with their
work, that they could start to construct the building to be used at the boat ramp.
SAFETY
Mr. Ennesser mentioned that he is working on the safety audits for the various
fields. One item of safety to note is a broken swing at Robinson Lane. This should be removed as
soon as possible. Mr. Holt mentioned that we have lots of pea gravel enough to finish Robinson
Lane, and Spook Hill. We still have to get a P.O. for the excavation work.
ROBINSON LANE/LITTLE LEAGUE
Mr. Ennesser mentioned that someone should call Little League and see if they
intend to take down the nets that are in the batting cages. Mr. Holt mentioned that they are doing
that now. Mr. Holt mentioned that he has spoken with Mr. Manassar and was told that they are
going ahead with the third batting cage. Mr. Manassar mentioned that there was not enough
fencing given to them for the third cage but that he has enough money to go ahead with the
project. If the weather permits, A-I Fence will do this in the fall.
5
Mr. Ennesser mentioned that the metal piece is back on the roof but that the
shingles on the ridge of the roof are ripped.
Mr. Friedman has talked with Gail Provost and they have cleaned out the store and
washed it down. They are suppose to have a crew out there between the holidays to paint the
store. He also reminded us that we still need the no softball signs up on the two fields Big Boy and
SL-2.
He also asked about the fence for field 7 and was told that a request is in to the
Town Board for approval to do this work. We have a P.O. for the work on the parking area which
when done will give us parking for approximately 50 cars.
We did put clay on two fields at Robinson Lane. The trucking company had to
drop it all on SL-2 because of the wet ground and we moved it. The recent storm took the roofs
off of two of the dugouts. They will be put on in the Spring in the meantime they will be put next
to the building. We also lost a few shingles off of some of the roofs.
Mr. Holt mentioned that he is having Eric from A-L Fence Company look into
putting an extension on Memorial field and S.L. 1 to try and save some of the balls from going
over. Mr. Friedman had a problem with this so it will be discussed futher when we find out the
cost for the project.
SPOOK HILL
Mr. Miller mentioned that he will be preparing a plan over the winter to make the
Spook Hill park more presentable.
CASTLE POINT
There is a new gate at Castle Point which is just like the one that is currently at
Robinson Lane.
MARTZ FIELD
Weare still waiting for Graham Foster to do the paving work around the building
and over at the bam. Mr. Holt mentioned that vandals have painted the building at Martz again.
ELKS CLUB PARTY
Sign up for this Christmas Party will be held at the Town Hall on November 16th
starting at 10:00 a.m. Mr. Holt will be at the Town Hall to help Mrs. DeLisa and Mrs. Roe as we
are anticipating a large crowd. We have to make sure that everyone who signs up are Town of
Wappinger residents. The total number of reservations that we can take is 185.
6
. .
MAINTENANCE
Mr. Holt mentioned that Lucy Doroni and Carl Boss are finished for this year.
Lewis Rompala will be on until after the Christmas Parties. He also noted for the record that Mr.
Boss is an excellent worker.
Gutzler.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:20 on a motion by Mr. Miller seconded by Miss
Peggy Roe

MEMO TO: RALPH J. HOLTt CHAIRMAN

FROM:
KA THI DELISAt SENIOR CITIZEN DIRECTOR
RE:
TOWN BUS TRIP TO SHA WNEE PLAYHOUSE 10/17/95
There was an incident that occurred on our Town sponsored trip to Shawnee
Playhouse on 10/17/95 that I want to make you aware of. Fortunately for the Townt Regina
Waldron our Town escort prevented a possible hazardous situation.
The roads in the areas of Pennsylvania are narrow and winding even the main
roads. The bus driver passed the inn where the seniors were to have lunch by approximately 3
miles. The driver stopped and backed up and in doing so the bus went into a low incline. The bus
could not move and the bus was tilted. Regina suggested that all the people should get off the bus
realizing that as the driver attempted to get the bus out of the inclinet the bus could tip over.
Regina said .My first responsibility is the safety of the seniors..
She moved everyone away from the narrow winding road and kept them away
from the bUSt especially the men who thought they could help. The driver put boards under the
wheels to give them some traction. Againt Regina insisted those trying to help to keep away
fearing the board could fly up and hit someone.
Many of the seniors wanted to start walking back to the inn. Regina would not
allow this. First of allt the roads are narrow and winding and many seniors have heart problems or
other physical ailments that could have been aggravated if they walked this distance. Most of allt
Regina explained that as a grOUPt they must stay together for everyone's safety and well being.
Fortunately there was a phone near by and they called the inn. The inn sent a mini
van to pick up the seniors although it took a few trips. In the meantime the bus driver did get the
bus out of the incline and was able to take the rest of the seniors to the inn.
After the lunch the seniors went on to the Playhouse for the show and enjoyed the
rest of the day.
Thanks to the coolt calm thinking of Regina and her ability to control 46 seniors in

a crisis situation, everything turned out okay. The seniors and the bus driver praised and thanked
her for her actions. Many seniors have called me to tell me that Regina took charge and helped
them through a stressful situation.
I have commended Regina for her superb ability to take charge of this potentially
dangerous situation and assured her the Town would be grateful to her for averting a possible
liability to the Town.
I hope the Committee will let her know she does a good job.

of news so read this carefully so you don't miss the
upcoming holiday events. (Maybe I should give a test to see
how many read the newsletter!)
First I want to thank all of you for all your hard work
and contributions for our Craft Fair. It was another great
success and that is because of so many of you. It takes a
lot of work and cooperation and you all certainly do your
part. Thank you all. And I want to take the opportunity to
thank Regina and Sue for all they do. Besides keeping you
all busy, they have to find time and ways to finish up or
fix all the projects I give them to do before the Fair.
These two outstanding Craft Teachers help make it possible
for us to have a successful fair. So if you have a chance,
give them an extra hug and let them know we all appreciate
all they do for all of us. Proceeds of the Fair will go
towards our luncheons and especially towards our holiday
festivities. The rewards of all your hard work are near.

will be lots of surprises, lots of good food and a great day
to enjoy your friends. A reindeer with a red nose whispered
a secret to me the other day. Ah, but I can't tell you what
he told me. Well, you'll find out soon enough.
The WALKING CLUB continues... .If you haven't started
walking and would like to join our walking club, let me know
and I'll put your name on the chart and explain the rules.
Enjoy the poem by Sue Bush. The Creative Corner was
started so you all have the opportunity to share your
creative writing, thoughts, drawing or cartoon. Come on
Seniors, let's see what your thoughts are! Don't be shy!
Share your thoughts and creativity with us!! !!I will include
these in the newsletter. We have many talented seniors at
the Center. Some do crafts, some paint or draw, some write
poetry and/or stories, some have wonderful and creative
ideas. Vou may submit your "writing" or even a drawing or
cartoon to me at any time. Please do not submit preprinted
articles etc. from other sources. I am sure we will all
enjoy reading or seeing the creativity of our fellow
seniors.
The Wappinger Lions Club needs old eyeglasses or hearing
2
aids. If you have any you no longer want or need, bring
them to the Center. I will see to it that they are given to
the Lions Club.
Thanksgiving is almost here. I want to take the
opportunity to thank each of you for all you do, for all you
are. Each one of you bring something special to the Center,
a smile, a prayer, a kind word, a funny joke, understanding,
oh so much. Sometimes when I see or hear the-kindness so
many of you share, I wonder if you realize that you make the
world a nicer place to.be. I know you make my world a nicer
place to be and thank you for that. This has been a
difficult year for me with my husband being ill, but you
have made it easier for me with your prayers, advice,
understanding, concern and I thank you for that. You make
my world easier. You care about others and show it with a
hug or a smile. Those hugs and smiles mean so much to me.
You make the world a happier place to be and I thank you for
that. To each of you I thank you for all these things and
more. And thank you all for just being you. Happy
Thanksgiving and may God Bless everyone of you.
For those paying dues by the month, Nov. dues is $2.00.
Also, if anyone is interested in paying dues on a yearly
basis, feel free to do so. Yearly dues is $25.00. A big
hug to you all! Smile!!!

CREATIVE CORNER
LET YOUR LOVE SHOW
by
SUE BUSH
If you love your special someone.
Don't be afraid to let your love show.
Don't let them guess, let them know.
Love is like a flower,
Treat it with tender loving care
And watch it grow.
Whisper sweet words of love
To your special some one,
And add a hug or two,
It always works like magic,
Bringing back loads of love to you.
Always share a kiss good night
And say a prayer or two.
Thanking God, you found your special some one
To share their love and life with you.
Always try to remember,
To let your love show.
