RECREATION COMMITTEE MINUTES
DECEMBER 12, 1995
NEXT MEETING JANUARY 9, 1996 AT 7:30 P.M. AT SCHLATHAUS PARK
The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation Committee was held
December 12, 1995 at Sch1athaus Park, All Angels Hill Road, Town of Wappinger, Dutchess
County, New York.
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Chairman Ralph 1. Holt. Others
present were Kathi DeLisa, Senior Citizen Director, Bernie Reimer, Recreation Director, and
Committee Members Joseph Ennesser, Ronald Friedman, Barbara Gutzler, and Ellen Korz.
The minutes of the November 14, 1995 meeting were approved on a motion by
Miss Gutzler seconded by Mr. Friedman with all in favor.
CORRESPONDENCE
A letter dated November 29,1995 which was addressed to Dutchess County
Planning and Development from Peter 1. Paggi regarding the Community Development Block
Grant at the Castle Point Recreation Site was received for our information. The proposed funding
encompassed the following:
1. Sewer & Water facilities
2. Water System Equipment
3. Well Development & Quality Testing
4. Extend Public Electric Service to Site
$26,543.75
1,595.25
1,850.00
3,531 62
$33,520.62
In his letter he addressed the status of each of the above items and it was noted that all of the above
items had been completed except for the work to be completed by Central Hudson. He noted that
Central Hudson is in the process of finalizing construction plans and will provide the Town with a
schedule in the near future. He asked the County if the applicable Block Grant monies could be
held by them until the work can be accomplished.
A letter was received from David H. Deitrick, Jr. Lieutenant Colonel, Department
of the Army, The United States Military Academy Band, West Point. In his letter he informed us
that the Academy Concert Band has been scheduled to perform at the Roy C. Ketcham High
School on April 12, 1996.
A memo was received from Supervisor Smith in regard to our request to open an
account at the Wm. Tell Hardware Store. In light of the fact that Ureys, then to be Martel and most
recent was Schmitt's Hardware have closed, the Recreation Maintenance were looking for an
additional place besides Grossman's (which seems to be high on many items) to purchase hardware
items. We had previously tried to purchase at Home Depot and were not able to do so because of
the way their accounts are set up. In her letter dated November 20, 1995 Supervisor Smith
indicated that we now have an account at Home Depot in Wappinger and she has requested that
our maintenance people use that store until she revisits in 1996.
A memo was received from Comptroller Ann Buckley stating that there is to be no
more spending, unless of emergency in nature as of November 27, 1995. The memo indicated that
all voucher and purchase orders must be approved by Supervisor Connie Smith prior to ordering
any item. Since this is the case we will certainly run way under budget. Mrs. Roe has sent letters
to the Town Board to obtain permission to install 50- amp electric service at the Barn. Quotes
were received as follows for the work: A & B. Electric $1,125.00, Chris Bar Electric $1,196.00
and D. Silvestri $2,293.40. A second letter has been sent to the Town Board to request electrical
work be done at Schlathaus Park. The following are the quotes received for this work A. & B.
Electric $1,950.00, Chris Bar Electric $2,043.00 and D.Silvestri Sons, Inc. $3,110.56. The
request for approval for fencing on field # 7 was also forwarded to the Town Board. The
following are the quotes for this work: A-I Fence Company $2,765.00 Mid Hudson Fence
Company $3,063.00. A letter was also sent to DeChetta Contracting on 10/4/95 and to Adams
Fences on 11/1/95 requesting quotes on this project and we did not receive any response from
them.
Approval was received from Sheafe Road School to hold the Aerobic Program at
their Cafetorium on December 7th and December 21 st. Mr. Reimer noted that the Jr. High was not
available on those two nights and therefore, he was transferring the program to Sheafe Road on
those two evenings. Approval was also received from Roy C. KetchaII,l to use their facilities for
the U.S.Military Academy Concert Band on April 12, 1996.
Mr. Ennesser has brought in two estimates for the replacement of the bulletin
boards at Schlathaus Park. One estimate was for a 5' x 8' wood construction with a unit price with
installation of $808.45 and the second estimate was for a same size board constructed of aluminum
at a unit price including installation of $706.38.
A memo was sent to Comptroller Ann Buckley advising that a youngster received a
2nd degree burn at the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. The child was burned on the right leg
with hot coffee. A copy of this memo was sent to the Town's Insurance Company.
Letters were sent to Supervisor Smith, Councilman Joseph Incoronato, Councilman
Robert Valdati, Councilman Joseph Ruggiero, Councilwoman June Visconti and Councilman
Elect Vincent Bettina inviting them to attend the Town's Christmas Program which was held
December 3rd at 5:00 p.m.

SENIOR CITIZEN REPORT
Mrs. DeLisa handed out a report on the Senior Activities for the month of
November. This report is attached to these minutes.
She also noted that today we held the Senior Christmas Party at the Elks Club
and it was wonderful. We had a record number of raffle prizes for the Seniors, 35 prizes in all.
There was good music and good food. We had many wonderful comments on the party.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
A discussion was held regarding the proposal for the babysitting course. Mr.
Reimer will review the letter to the Town Board and we will forward it to the Board.
We have received the information on the Radio City Easter Show. It will be a
Wednesday Show April 8th and it will be $21.00 per person. It is actually called the .Spring
Spectacular.
Mr. Reimer mentioned that he will be starting to work on the concert schedule for
1996. A suggestion was made that we run buses to a show or play. Mr. Reimer mentioned that
he look into a show at Westchester or Eisenhower Hall.
SAFETY /ROBINSON LANE
Mr. Ennesser mentioned that he is still working on the safety audit. He has
finished Robinson Lane and that site is looking good. He has also started Spook Hill. We hope
that Mr. Provost has taken down the nets etc in the batting cages at Robinson Lane. Mr.
Friedman asked if the parking area was done at Robinson Lane. Mr. Holt said that it has not been
done. Mr. Ennesser mentioned that he has spoken to Mr. Provost about ftxing the broken door on
the equipment building. Mr. Friedman was asked to keep in touch with Little League about the
painting party and about what kind of tile they plan to put down in the building. We should see
and approve of what they plan to do.
FIRST AID
Miss Gutzler mentioned that since we hold a number of parties at Schlathaus Park,
we should have a ftrst aid kit available for treating minor problems. Mrs. Korz mentioned that the
setup for the tent was not good as she noticed several people tripping over the poles. Next year we
need to look over the layout and we must monitor the number of people that are in the tent and
only authorized people working should be in the tent. We also should look into having more light
around the tent area.

CHAIRMAN REPORT
Mr. Holt mentioned that Mr. Miller has spoken to the transportation department
regarding the $4.32 bill we recently received from the School District. In taking with them Mr.
Miller noted that he felt that there were still some inconsistencies and we are now going to receive
a check from them for approximately $40.00 plus or minus.
Mr. Holt noted that since the tree lighting ceremony we have had trouble with the
lights on the tree. Half of the tree was not lighting. We think the problem is solved but we are not
sure. It was noted that this year we did not spend any money on any new bulbs and hopefully after
Christmas we will be able to get some on sale for next year. This is not like having the bulbs on a
tree at a persons home. The bulbs are put up and taken down with help from persons other than
the maintenance personnel and the care is not there as it is with your own personal bulbs. The
lights are also up on the tree longer and therefore are out in the weather longer so they don't last as
long.
Mr. Holt mentioned that he has spoken to Mr. Foster about the paving that he
promised to do for us a Martz Field and at the Barn which was not completed in 1995. He did
promise to try and get it done for us in the Spring of 1996.
A discussion took place regarding taking small subdivision areas for recreation
purposes. The Committee agreed that having a lot of small areas to maintain is more trouble and
we felt that the money we would get in lieu ofland would be better put to use in improving current
holdings.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 p.m. on a motion by Mr. Ennesser seconded by
Miss Gutzler.

not pout!!! Santa's definitly on his way and has lots of
fun and surprises just for YOU! Parties, food, music, fun
and lots more! So put on your happy face and let's PARTY!
PARTY! PARTY!
First on our agenda is a big CONGRATULATIONS to Angelo
Sarno winning our Center Jeopardy and then on to become a
semi-finalist in the County Jeopardy Contest. Angelo will
be competing with three other contestants on Dec. 4th at the
Galleria, I believe at 1:30p.m. Good luck Angelo!! We are
all cheering for you. We are very proud of you.
For those going to the Bardavon for the Lawerence Welk
Show, the bus will pick you up at Town Hall between 9a.m and
9:30a.m. I will let you know if I have a more definite
time. I have your tickets and will give them to you the day
of the show. If you cannot attend, let me know and I will
try to find someone else to go in your place. The show is
at 11a.m. Anyone can go. If you did not sign up with me,
and would like to go see me and I will see if there is more
room on the bus.
This is a busy week. On Fri., Dec. 8th we will have our
annual Christmas luncheon at Villa Borghese at noon. You
must sign up and pay for this luncheon by Dec. 1. There can
be no refund if you cancel after Dec. 5th. Lunch includes
soup, salad, choice of Prime Rib or Stuffed Filet of Sole,
dessert, coffee or tea. The cost for current dues paying
members is $5.00. The cost may vary for those not current
with dues or those who are new to the Center. There will be
lots of surprises, lots of good food and a great day to
enjoy your friends. A reindeer with a red nose whispered a
secret to me the other day. Ah, but I can't tell you what
he told me or it will not be a secret. Well, you'll find
out soon enough.
( (! If Ell)
box provided. Christmas items would also be appropriate.
The WALKING CLUB continues... .We'have a few new walkers.
Welcome to our Club!! If you haven't started walking and
would like to join our walking club, let me know and I'll
put your name on the chart and explain the rules. What do
you think about a teeshirt or sweatshirt with Wappinger
Senior Walking Club on it? Let me know!
Enjoy the poem by Sue Bush. The Creative Corner was
started so you all have the opportunity to share your
creative writing, thoughts, drawing or cartoon. Come on
Seniors, let's see what your thoughts are! Don't be shy!
Share your thoughts and creativity with us!!!!I will include
these in the newsletter. We have many talented seniors at
the Center. Some do crafts, some paint or draw, some write
poetry and/or stories, some have wonderful and creative
ideas. You may submit your "writing" or even a drawing or
cartoon to me at any time. Please do not submit preprinted
articles etc. from other sources. I am sure we will all
enjoy reading or seeing the creativity of our fellow
seniors.
The Wappinger Lions Club needs old eyeglasses or hearing
aids. If you have any you no longer want or need, bring
them to the Center. I will see to it that they are given to
the Lions Club.
