RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES
OCTOBER 3, 2000.
NEXT MEETING NOVEMBER 6,2000 AT 7:00 P.M. AT SCHLATHAUS
The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation Commission was held
October 3,2000 at Schlathaus Park, All Angels Hill Road, Town of Wappinger, Dutchess
County, New York.
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chairman Ralph 1. Holt. Others
present were Kathi DeLisa, Senior Citizen Director, Stephen Lowery, Recreation Director, and
Commission Members James Chapp as, Joseph Ennesser, Ronald Friedman, Ellen Korz and
Joanne Vazquez.
The minutes of the September 12, 2000 meeting were approved on a motion by
Mr. Friedman seconded by Mrs. Korz with all in favor.
CORRESPONDENCE
A certificate of insurance was received from Sharon McSween for the "Batting for
a Benefit" tournament being held at Robinson Lane on September 23 and 24.
A letter was received from BJ.'s Wholesale Club indicating that they were unable
to support our request for the Senior Citizen Holiday Party. They indicated that they have
currently adopted the BrinckerhotfElementary School as Adopt a School Program and through
this program they support local children and their educational programs.
A letter was received from Karl Balone of the Wappingers Senior League All Stars
stating that they have once again brought home the District 17 Championship pennant. They
expressed their thanks and appreciation for our support of the league during the 2000 season.
OUTGOING LETTERS FOR SEPTEMBER 2000
1. Press release to the newspapers, radio stations etc for the Senior craft fair 10/20/00
2. Letter to N.Y.S. DOT regarding the $5,000. grant for Reese Park.
3. Letter to Hudson River Foundation with signed contract for the Boat Ramp grant $10,000.
4. Letter to Supervisor Smith with draft of the answers to Mrs. Graff's letter.

The Commission indicated that the letter received from Mrs. Graff was never in the paper
and therefore we will not send the response to the paper. The response will go just to Mrs. Graff.
A meeting has been scheduled on October 10, 2000 to discuss the proposed Senior Center.
SENIOR CENTER REPORT
Mrs. DeLisa handed out a report ofthe activities of the Senior Center. This report
is attached to these minutes.
She reminded everyone that the Craft Fair is scheduled for October 20th.
RECREATION DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Mr. Lowery mentioned that he will be moving on Saturday and asked if anyone
would be available to open Schlathaus to give the race trophies to Linda Stow, Director of the
Schlathaus Race. Mrs. DeLisa volunteered to do this.
Mr. Lowery's new address is 21 Ardmore Drive and his new phone is 297-5005.
He mentioned that he will need information for the 2001 recreation guide soon so
if anyone has information or can get it to him he would appreciate it.
He mentioned that the nets on the basketball court at Martz Field need to be
replaced.
He mentioned that he has been working on trips and events for next year and will

Mr. Lowery mentioned that he would like to try a Family Fun Night at the High
School in February or April. Everyone thought it would be a good idea and asked him to pull
together a plan.
He also suggested about expanding the programs and will be coming back with
some ideas on this.
BOATRAMP
Mr. Ennesser said that he has been in contact with Ecological Specialties about
redesigning the dock system for 2001. He will be using the funds from the $10,000. grant.
REESE PARK
Mr. Ennesser has been to Reese Park to stake out the bridge for the concrete work
and has talked with the contractor. We still have not heard any more from Joel Miller's Office
about the $5,000. grant.
He has also spoken with Roger Humeston regarding the proposed road work
(drainage) at Reese.
Mr. Ennesser mentioned that he met with AI Roberts regarding the contract with
the Community Transition Center to provide volunteer maintenance for our parks when needed.
Mr. Ennesser mentioned that he has spoken with Mr. Tompkins about the
possibility of putting up a gate at the South Avenue entrance to Reese Park. This is a gate that
we have at the barn.

SCHLATHAUS PARK
Mr. Ennesser has been working on getting 3 quotes for the replacement of the sign
at Schlathaus Park.
HALLOWEEN
Mrs. Korz went over the list of the local businesses that she and Mrs. Vazquez
have been working with to obtain donations for the Halloween Party on October 29th. She also
mentioned that she has contacted the three witches Gudges) and has spoken with Meadowbrook.
It was suggested that we might increase the order at Meadowbrook for the cider, apples and
donuts. Mr. Holt mentioned that he would contact Little League and soccer to see if they could
contribute to the party.
EQUIPMENT
Mrs. Vazquez mentioned that she felt that we should concentrate on the park
equipment. She mentioned that her kids do not enjoy our playgrounds and that we should think
about updating them even if we have to do one park at a time. Mrs. Vazquez brought in a couple
of items that she thought would be good to install at the parks. Several items were discussed
such as maxi whirl, chin bars and balance beam. It was decided that we purchase (2) two of the
maxi whirls to add to our equipment.
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
Mr. Holt mentioned the following:
1. The fence has been installed at Castle Point and looks good.
2. We are still hoping that Robinson Lane will be paved this year.
3. We are hoping that Schlathaus ParkinglPaving will be done this year. We still
have to get bids for the prep work.
4. Ossenkop is coming in to check on the water at Schlathaus to see what can be
done regarding the smell.
5. Weare still testing the water at Robinson Lane and will continue until the end
of October .
6. The Halloween party is on Octoer 29th at 2:00 p.m. Mr. Ennesser will be here

to set up the sound system. The maintenance men will be here to set up tables etc. The rain site
will be Myers Corners School.
7. We have just recently learned that the Bisaccia Tournament will be held at
Robinson Lane on October 7th and 8th. It was mentioned that we need to know about these
tournaments ahead of time even ifthey are run by Little League. It was suggested that a letter be
written to Mr. Farrell about this.
8. Martz Field (dugouts) is a mess again. We have painted the dugouts twice
already this year and again the writing on them is terrible.
9. We have asked Mr. Tompkins to get us estimates for 4 dugouts. Councilman
Bettina has volunteered to excavate and maybe do the cement work for these dugouts.
10. Nick Butler has gone in the Air Force so we will need maintenance help.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 on a motion by Mr.Friedman seconded by Mrs.
Korz.
