SENIOR CITIZEN REPORT Mrs. DeLisa handed out a report on the Senior activities for the month of October which is attached to these minutes. RECREATION DIRECTOR'S REPORT Mr. Lowery addressed the following: 2 Recreation Minutes November 6, 2000 1. Thanks to everyone for their help at the Halloween Party. 2. He noted that the recreation area seems to get busier and busier and he appreciates everyone's help. 3. He has been working on the 2001 Recreation Guide and would like any information by the next meeting i.e. information regarding soccer and baseball sign ups, golf etc. He would also like permission from the contact people to publish their phone numbers for information purposes. 4. He has been working on scheduling the bus trips for next year and he mentioned that he would like to limit the number of tickets that one person could buy to five. He said that if seats are open at the end, that he would call the people and offer them more tickets. This suggestion was approved. 5. So far the concert schedule for next year is as follows: 6-28 7-5 7/12 Final Touch Thunder Ridge Hot Rod 7/19 7/26 8/2 Hearts Desire/Harvest Band George Fletcher The Klassics He mentioned that he was trying to get the West Point Band for this summer but they are on a tour in July and on vacation in June. It was felt that August was a hard month to get the school as a back up site because the District at that point is trying to get the schools ready for the next school year. It was suggested that instead we try to do a Jazz Knight concert in April or September. 6. He has set up the schedule for the Friday Night Fun Night as follows: 7/6 YoYo Man 7/13 Steve Johnson Magic 7/20 Puppet Guy/Movie 7/27 Steve Max /Movie 8/3 Ned Gelfars/Movie We still have to look into the camera and screen. Mr. Holt mentioned that the camera is in next year's budget. 7. It was mentioned that the tracks on the sign at Schlathaus are coming apart and Mr. Ennesser said that he would have someone look into fixing it. 3 Recreation Minutes November 6, 2000 8. A discussion was held regarding the registration for the playgrounds for the coming year. Mr. Lowery had originally suggested dates during the week at Ketcham stating that people could come whenever they wanted instead of having specific dates for each camp. After a discussion it was suggested that maybe we move the registration dates to Saturdays and do it at the Town Hall. It was stated that we couldn't use the schools on Saturdays because they would have to charge. We would like to shoot for May 13 and May 20. 9. A further discussion was held on whether one camp should be kept open when there is an off site trip. This would be for those who could not afford the trip or didn't want to go. A discussion was held regarding which camp and it was decided that maybe it should be Spook Hill since it is centrally located. This will be discussed further as the year goes on. 10. We also have to make a decision on the status of the Hughsonville Area playground. Are we going to be able to use Evans, Greystone or some other site? We will need to pursue Evans again if we are holding it there. Mr. Miller mentioned that there will come a time when the district will be working over the summer at that school and it will no longer be available. 11. A discussion was held regarding the T-shirts for the campers. Mr. Lowery has suggested that all the children be given the same color Town of Wappinger T-shirt for the out of camp trips. By doing that we can use the left overs the next year and we could even order them early to give them out at registration. REESE PARK Mr. Ennesser mentioned that Mr. Tompkins is suppose to clear the entrance to Reese Park on Wednesday and it is hoped that they will get in soon to do the concrete work for the bridge. We still have not received the paperwork and check for this grant. He said that he keeps calling the office for this but no response. He said that he now has a map of the Reese park so that we can proceed to put up the gate. It will be the one that is at the barn REQUESTS FOR P.O. 'S Mr. Ennesser said that he has been following up getting the comparable information on the signs so we can go back in to the Town Board. He mentioned that he is not satisfied with the work from Superior Signs who put in the present signs and we have had a lot of trouble with the tracks. The bids that he received for the work is as follows: $1,395.00 from Superior Signs, $2,100.00 from Sign Language, and $2,900.00 from Gloede . 4 Recreation Minutes November 6, 2000 He has not heard back from Ballantine but it was felt that we should go with the lowest bidder. Has called several times. These are the parameters that they were shooting for and that was the specifications. HALLOWEEN Everyone was thanked for their help at the Halloween Party and Mr. Holt especially thanked Mrs. Korz and Mrs. Vazquez for all they did in obtaining donations. It was felt that there were too many people helping with all the people from soccer, and Little League. It was nice that so many people offered to help but it was too many. We need to change the procedure especially in giving out the bags. It was also suggested that we should not have Tippy Canoe. He is good but he is not able to keep the attention of the whole crowd. Mrs. Roe and Mr. Holt will do a write up and will include suggestions for next year. Mrs. Korz was asked for anything which she could add to the report. CHRISTMAS Mr. Friedman asked if soccer was going to be doing the hot chocolate and Mr. Holt said that he will contact them. Mr. Miller mentioned that Little League will also be doing something. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT Mr. Holt mentioned the following: 1. We are still hoping to get the paving work done at Robinson Lane and Schlathaus but we know that Mr. Foster still has a lot of work to do on the Town roads. Mr. Friedman suggested that the paving work at Schlathaus should be done first if possible. Mr. Holt said that the only problem with that is the paving work at Schlathaus is contingent on the prep work where Robinson does not have to have any prep work done. 2. We have most of the parks closed up but we still need to something with the rest rooms at Robinson Lane. The flow of the water to the toilets is not adequate enough to handle the usage. 3. Mr. Holt went over the status of the 2001 budget as far as he knows at this point. There are several items that he knows have been reduced or removed from the budget such as the new truck (removed), Director at Reese Park (per Mr. Ennesser's write up) (reduced) and some fencing (reduced). 5 Recreation Minutes November 6, 2000 4. We have a lock box for Schlathaus Park and a key was given to the Fire Co. 5. We hurried to get the sign done for Melissa Bisaccia and Mr. Ruggiero wanted to have the ceremony this Fall. Mr. Holt mentioned that the family has had a lot of health problems at the present time and therefore the sign has been wrapped up and placed in the Barn and the ceremony will take place some time next year. 6. Mr. Lowery mentioned that the area light at Schlathaus Park is not working. Mrs. Roe said that she will mention this to Mr. Tompkins and have Chris Bar look at it. 7. We need help in the maintenance area and help in the Senior Center (part time) If anyone knows of someone, please let us know. We need to build up a number of staff for the Senior Center just in case we run into a bind. Too many things can happen and we can be left in a lurch. 8. Mr. Gallinger is a good worker in the maintanance department and we would like to have him full time but we need to see if we can get him some more money. Mr. Holt is working on this with the Supervisor. 9. Spoke to Mr. Farrell about the dugouts at Robinson. Mr. Bettina mentioned at one of the Town meetings that he would be happy to come out and have his construction people excavate for the 4 dugouts that we need for the little players. Mr. Holt told Mr. Farrell to ask if they would be willing to pour the cement and put in the footings. Mr. Farrell mentioned that Little League would be willing to pay for the cement if need be. Mr. Holt asked Mr. Farrell to contact Mr. Bettina to discuss this work. 10. The Christmas party for the kids is at Schlathaus on December 3rd. Everyone's help is requested. The maintenance guys have started to check the lights and the ones on the house are all set. They are still working on those on the tree. 11. Sign up for the Elks party is Wednesday morning (Nov. 8th) at the Town Hall. 12. The location for the Community Center is Montfort. It is believed that at this time the Town Engineer and Architect are in the process of putting together the specs for this project. Mr. Roberts will be working on the bonding information. This building would not only be for the Seniors but for Little League and Soccer registration,.Halloween Parties if the weather is bad etc. 6 Recreation Minutes November 6,2000 13. The lights at Robinson Lane have been okayed by the Town Board but we do not know where this issue stands. The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 on a motion by Mr. Miller seconded by Mr. Friedman.
