RECREA nON DIRECTOR' S REPORT
Mr. Lowery commented that the summer program will be starting on June 25,2001.
Orientations for the counselors have been held. There is one more final registration for the camps
to be held on June 14,2001 at Sclathaus Park from 6:00p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Board of Health
is basing the number of counselors needed (12- 1 ratio) on the number of children registered. He
also mentioned that if there are still more wanting to sign up after June 14th, that there may be a
need for more counselors to maintain the 12-1 ratio required..
Mr. Lowery mentioned that there is a lot of interest in the wiftle ball league. There are
approximately 5 teams of 4 people. Mr. Lowery asked what fee would be charged for each team.
It was agreed that a $20.00 fee per 4 member team.
The trip to Foxwood was successful. Forty six residents attended. Mr. Lowery is also
planning a trip to Cooperstown in September if there is enough interest. The sign up for Six Flags
is going a bit slow. This is scheduled for August.
The Family program will begin in July. Programs have been advertised including Cable
Community 61 Public Service. There was a discussion on purchasing a projector for the Family
Night movie. The cost of these special projectors is very high and there is few vendors carrying
this item. The least expensive used projector is $2600.00. The cost of a new projector starts at
approximately $3500.00. After a discussion regarding this, it was agreed that rental of the
projector is better than purchasing one at this time as it will be used only three to four times for
Family Night.
Mr. Lowery stated that all high school students are required to do 10 hours of Community
Service. He suggests that we could have many of these students do some painting in the parks
and help to keep them clean. With the students being a part of keeping our parks clean and well
maintained, it may result in students taking pride in our parks. A positive peer pressure may help
to stop the vandalism going on now. As this is a requirement in the school curriculum, insurance
is carried under the school policy. Mr. Holt will be look into this.
ROLLER HOCKEY:
Mr. Ennesser has looked into using one of the schools to begin a roller hockey program.
'.
Mr. Miller suggested Myers Corners School would be the best school to look at to start a.
program. Teams would provide their own equipment and supplies. Mrs. Vasquez will look into
this and get more information about the East Fishkill program. Mr. Lowery will check with the
schools.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:25 p.m. with a motion by Steve Miller and seconded by Joe Ennesser.
