SENIOR CITIZEN REPORT Mrs. DeLisa handed out a report on the Senior activities for the month of July. This report is attached to these minutes. Mrs. DeLisa commented on the cooperation of her staff since Mrs. Roe's absence. Eileen Manning is doing an excellent job and helping with the summer program and has been a good support and help to her. Regina Waldron and Maria Borges have also taken on the extra work load and have helped to keep the Senior Center functioning so Mrs. DeLisa can do the work in the Recreation Office. She wants the Comm. to know the staff is doing a great job and is most thankful for their cooperation and help. RECREATION DIRECTOR'S REPORT The summer program has been very successful with only minor problems. The end of the year playground picnic is scheduled for August 8th and will have a "carnival theme" this year. Each camp will bring carnival type games. Entertainment will include Steve Max and Yo Yo Man, a lip-sine contest, and the Balloon Man. Super Stop n Shop is donating all the food for the end of the year picnic. The Family Program was very successful this year with good attendance.. The summer concerts were great and had a good response. Mr. Lowery has started an E-Newsletter. He got names and email addresses from the audience at the concerts and family programs. This is another avenue to reach the Town Residents to inform them of our programs. The newsletter will be sent out once a month. Mr. Lowery is changing his office hours to Tuesday from 7:00-8:30 P.M and Friday 5:30- 7:00 P.M. Mr. Lowery suggests the Commission recommend an increase in summer playground fees and would like to discuss this at a later meeting. He would also like to establish a uniform behavior code and appropriate discipline procedures for the summer camps to go to the Town Board for approval. If then approved he suggests a brochure be printed with all the rules, regulations, policies etc. Upcoming trips are Cooperstown on September 22 and Mohegan Sun October 14. REESE PARK Trail Day at Reese Park is scheduled for September 22, 2000]. Mr Ennesser will use this day to kick off the bridge opening again. BOAT DOCK We will be resurfacing the boat ramp. Mr. Ennesser is also looking into expanded metal panels for more stability. Mr. Ennesser also showed the synopsis of the grant allocations showing where we are at and what is still outstanding. Mrs. Korz is working on Halloween and looking into entertainment for the day. Halloween party will be on Saturday October 27 at ] :OOP.M.. Mrs. Korz stated the tennis program was very successsful this year. We do need to look for new assistants next year. Mrs. Korz gave Mr. Lowery and Mrs. DeLisa the name of a gentleman that teaches ballroom dancing. He can teach this in the evenings or the weekends. This may be a nice program when the new Community Center is complete. Mrs. Vasquez has been researching skate parks and roller hockey. She brought in a video on skate parks put out by Landscape Structures. She also went to look at the Beekman skate park, videoed the site and spoke to some recreation workers. Beekman used existing basketball courts, resurfaced the area, fenced the area and bought the necessary equipment. There is a charge for use of the skate park. Residents pay a lesser fee than non residents. Non residents are limited to only 3 days a week. Those using the facility, must sign a release for liability purposes. This is a successful program for the Town of Beekman. It can be used with skate boards or roller hockey skates or trick bicycles. Mrs. Vasquez will continue her research on this program Mrs. Vasquez also checked into roller hockey. Mr. Miller is checking to see if we can use Myers Comers School parking area for roller hockey games. Bumper guards must be purchased, two goals and also a large trailer to house this equipment. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT: The paving at Schlathaus Park is in the process of being done. The surface is prepared. The Highway Department will be paving the area.. Monies for this are coming from Parkland funds. Mr. Holt stated that he is instructing maintenance to get estimates to get estimates for fencing repairs and new fencing. There are areas that are really bad and need to be fixed for safety purposes. Mr. Holt asked Mr. Friedman to sit in for him while he is away on vacation. He is still working on the playground equipment for Spook Hill. Mr. Holt hopes to have this in place by the end of this year. The meeting was adjourned at 8:55p.m. with a motion by Jim Chappas and seconded by Ellen Korz.
