LL #06-1979TOWN OF WAPPINGER DUTCHESS COUNTY, NEW YORK LOCAL LAW NO. 6,YEAR 1979 A LOCAL LAW PROHIBITING DESTRUCTION OF PUBLIC SIGNS IN THE TOM OF WAPPINGER r---------------------------------------------------------------------------- BE IT ENACTED by the Town Board of the Town of Wappinger, Dutchess County, New York, as follows: SECTION 1. It shall be unlawful for any person to remove, destroy, damage, deface, paint, or otherwise alter in any manner whatsoever any public sign within the Town of Wappinger, including but not limited to street signs, traffic regulation or advisory signs, directional signs, speed limit signs, safety signs, traffic lights or any other public signs of any nature or character. SECTION 2. Persons violating this local law shall be subject to fines not exceeding $100.00 or incarceration for a period not exceeding 5 (five) days or both. SECTION 3. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the Town may recover from any person violating this Local Law by appropriate civil action that sum of money necessary to reimburse the town for any damage caused by such person together with such action, including reasonable attorney's fees. SECTION 4. If any part, sectionp sentence, word, or other portion of this Local Law is found to be invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction such finding of invalidity shall not affect that portion of the local law not found to be invalid. SECTION 5. This Local Law shall take effect immediately upon filing with the Secretary of State.
