Disgruntled citizens have
often accused their. elected
officials of being "all wet."
Last week, the charge rang
true in Wappinger.
According to Wappinger
supervisor Lou Diehl, the
heating system in the
Wappinger town hall
malfunctioned, causing"
water to gush out of the third
floor radiators. The water,
joined by water seeping
through the old building's
roof, leaked all through the
town offices.
"Things are a little wet
around here," Diehl said last
Thursday, adding that the
building was without heat for
much of the week. Telephone
and electrical service was
also disrupted.
"It's minor, though,
really," said Diehl. "The
same thing happened last
year and the year before
that."
Diehl says that the
building needs a clew heating
System. "I wouldn't even
guess a cost," he added.
The town has been in-
terested for some time in
building a new town hall and
has been discussing for the
past few months - the
possibility of constructing a
solar heated facility on
property donated to the town
off Middlebush ,Road. Diehl
says that the town fathers
are hoping to get a federal
grant to pay for the con-
struction of the building.
The present town hall was
constructed in 1869 and is one
of the older buildings in the
