Resolution Authorizing Highway Superintendent to Advertise for Bids for Various
Highway Supplies and Services
At a regular meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Wappinger, Dutchess County,
New York, held at Town Hall, 20 Middlebush Road, Wappingers Falls, New York, on February
13,2012.
The meeting was called to order by Barbara Gutzler, Supervisor, and upon roll being
called, the following were present:

The following Resolution was introduced by Councilman Bettina and seconded by
Councilman Kuzmicz.
WHEREAS, by memo dated January 26,2012, Highway Superintendent, Graham
Foster, has requested authorization to go out to bid for various supplies and services to be used
by the Town of Wappinger Highway Department in calendar year 2012; and
WHEREAS, the bid request shall include such items as road aggregates, oil, gasoline,
road signs, catch basins, recycle hauling and other parts and materials used by the Highway
Department for the maintenance of Town roads and drainage systems as well as hauling services
used at the Town Recycle Center.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, as follows:
1. The recitations above set forth are incorporated in this Resolution as if fully set
forth and adopted herein.
2. The Town Board hereby authorizes Highway Superintendent, Graham Foster, to
solicit bids for various supplies and services needed by the Town of Wappinger
Highway Department for calendar year 2012, as well as those services and
supplies needed for the proper operation of the Town's Recycle Center
maintained at the Highway Department facilities.
The foregoing was put to a vote which resulted as follows:

GRINDING BRUSH
We currently have a significant amount of brush piled at the Highway Dept. from our storm of October 20] 1. Recently
we have seen a number of rats in our yard and they have made the brush pile their new home. As you know, rats
multiply very rapidly and will soon become a problem when they spread to our buildings and the homes of Oak Park.
As far as I know, the only way to control their spread is to grind the brush into mulch.
Our 20] 2 budget has $] 7,000 for the normal grinding of mulch for the re-cycle center, but the budget does not have
any money for the brush grinding. Since all the brush came from the pickup, which was requested by the Board, I need
some direction as to how you want to dispose of it.
I have received two quotes to grind the brush.
I.) Viking

The current law allows us to go to $20,000 without going to bid, but as I mentioned previously, no funds currently exist
for this purpose.
We had hoped for some FEMA money to help defray some of the cost but FEMA has denied the claim for Dutchess
County .
Please advise how you want me to proceed as soon as possible.

We propose to primary grind and regrind the wood pieces and leaves at the site
of the recycling center for the Town of Wappinger for a lump sum fee of $34,900.
We will use our Komatsu Excavator and Vermeer Horizontal Grinder with an
operator for the cleanup. The rate also includes the mobilization of all the heavy
equipment.
