1972-08-10 ~[!. .~~~ TOWN OF WAPPINGER RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES OF AUGUST 10, 1972 MEETING .~ ':'- Next Meeting - Auqust 17. 1972 7:30 P.M. The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation Commission was held on August 10, 1972 at 8:00 P.M. at the Town Hall. Attending: Messrs. Hugh J. Maurer and Richard Garren Mrs. Jean Beahan Mr. W. Thomas Rogers, Director of Recreation Absent: Mrs. Alfred Arkell Messrs. George Schlathaus and James V. Porter Mr. Maurer reported that he had attended a meeting with members of the Planning Bq~rE on Monday evening, August 7, 1972 with regard to pun (Planned Unit~ Development) and at this same meeting had an opportunity to discuss with members of the Planning Board the Commission's recommenda- tions regarding the dedication of land and monies in lieu of land for recreation. The Planning Board indicated its approval of a 10% land donation or $100 per lot in lieu of land and suggested that perhaps each year a re-evaluation of the $100 figure be made and new recommenda- tions be made if necessary. Mr. Maurer said that he attempted to discuss recreation land dedication in the Schoonmaker Development but it was suggested by the Planning Board that this matter be discussed at another time. "- Mr. Maurer also had the opportunity to talk to Mr. Rappleyea, Town Attorney, regarding the organization of the Recreation Commission. Mr. Rappleyea will get By-Laws together. He said that to his knowledge the Town still has the option of appointing a chairman or allowing the Commissioners to do it, but the Town Board has taken the option of appointing all chairmen. Mr. Rappleyea indicated that he could find no document which gives the Commission the right to elect its own officers. Director of Recreation Mr. Rogers submitted his report for the month of July 1972 and this, along with his End of Season - Spring 1972 Report and report for the month of June 1972 will be distributed to Commissioners. The Swim Program has been quite successful with approximately thirty (30) children from each playground participating. Mr. Rogers reported that he is pleased with the job the personnel at the Chelsea Playground are doing and that the children attending have learned a great deal from playground parsonnel. Mr. Rogers reported that the trip to the baseball game at Yankee Stadium was very successful and that buses will be filled on August 17th for the trip to Shea Stadium. _.~ \~..<.__.nv...',.,w....w"''''!'-;'' ;'';;''''''' Page 2 Town of Wappinger Recreation Commission Minutes of August 10, 1972 Meeting Huqhsonville Mr. Garren presented a copy of a letter dated July 12, 1972 from the Hughsonville fire Company, Inc. to the Hughsonville Board of fire Commissioners in which a number of complaints were registered regarding the use of the fire station by the Recreation Commission far the summer playground. Each member of the Recreation Commission will receive a copy of this letter. Mr. Garren suggested that a meeting be held to which representatives of the Hughsonville fire Company and the Hughsonville fire Commissioners, as well as representatives of the Chelsea fire Company, be invited in order that all complaints can be discussed. ; Reese Park Mr. Maurer reported that it was necessary to place a chain and lock at the entrance to the park because of the vandalism in the area. Horse Shaw Plans are being made for the Third Annual Horse Show with a tentative date of October 1, 1972. Budqet for 1973 A request for an estimate of expenditures has been received from the Supervisor's office with the request that it be returned to them by September 8, 1972. The Commission will meet on August 17th to begin preparation of the new budget. ~ Mr. Maurer indicated that Mr. Clausen and Mr. Jensen, Town Councilmen, have requested the opportunity to be present when the budget is prepared. However, Commissioners agreed that the initial meeting should be conducted without them and that, after the Commission had an opportunity to prepare budget figures, the Councilmen would be invited to attend.
