Minutes of February 10, 1972 Meeting

The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation Commission was held
on February 10, 1972 at 7:30 P. M. at the Town Hall.
Attending:
Messrs. Hugh J. Maurer, George Schlathaus, Richard Garren,
Mrs. Alfred Arkell
Mrs. R. L. Beahan
Mr. Thomas Rogers, Director of Recreation
Absent:
Messrs. James V. Porter and John C. Biasotti
Minutes were accepted for'the January 27, 1972 meeting with the following
changes to be incorporated:
Page 1 - Last item - Under III - Direct 8esponsibilities to the

"The Director shall be present at any and all functions,
unless excused by the Recreation Commission."
Page 2 - Roller Skatinq Proqram
to read as follows:
"Mrs. Beahan reported that she had contacted the manager of
the Avalon Roller Skating Rink in Newburgh, N. Y. and that
he said they would be willing to open the Avalon on any
Mondav throuqh Thursday evening to accommodate a group,
but that they must be guaranteed at least $100 per night.
Admission would be $1.50 per person plus 25~ rental fee
for skates.
Director of Recreation
Mr. Rogers submitted his Monthly Report for January 1972. Copies will be
made and distributed to Commissioners.
Responsibilities of Director
The guidelines as established in February 1971 "Responsibilities of
Director" will be up-dated to incorporate the changes indicated in the
January 27, 1972 minutes and the corrected paragraph as shown above.
Pondview
Vice-Chairman Arkell reported that there has been no progress on Pondview
because she has had no word from Mr. Russ.
Huqhsonville
. Mr. Garren reported on his meeting with Hughsonville firemen at which time
they discussed use of their facilities and suggested changes. Mr. Garren
submitted a memo to the Commission and copies of this will be distributed.'

Martz Field
Mr. Schlathaus reported that doors have been ordered for the field house
to replace those recently damaged by vandals. Mr. Schlathaus suggested
that consideration be given to replacing the tank-type toilets with
flushometers. It was requested that Mr. Schlathaus obtain an estimate
for this type conversion.
AII-Countv Girls' Softball Leaque
Mrs. Beahan reported on the meeting she recently attended with regard to
the above. Those already involved in the above program would like to see
at least two teams from the Wappingers area. There is an entry fee of
$60.00 which is usually paid by the sponsor. Minimum age requirement is
18 yrs. or 17 yrs. and out of school.
Mrs. Beahan stated that she had spoken to a Mr. John B\dami who would be
interested in working with the softball league. It wa~ the feeling of
Mrs. Beahan and Mr. Badami, however, that a new league should be started
locally with the possibility of inculding Fishkill and East Fishkill. Mrs.
Beahan was told to pursue this idea further and is to contact the local
recreation commissions to determine how much interest there might be in
their areas.
Castle Point Procurement
Chairman Maurer reported that Mr. Rappleyea, Town Attorney, is preparing
the necessary papers required by the State. In meeting with officials of
the Town of Fishkill Mr. Maurer said that the cost and development of this
property was discussed and that he indicated to them that at this time the
Town of Wappinger Recreation Commission is not in a position to spend any
money; that there is no schedule for development but that it is felt it is
essential to accept the land for future use. Town of Fishkill officials
expressed the same views.
1972 Recreation Budqet
Final cum were made in the Proposed 1972 Budget. The new budget will be
prepared and distributed.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 P.M.
