The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation Commission was held
at the Town Hall on November 8, 1973 at 8:00 p.m.
Attending: Messrs. Hugh J. Mourer, George Schlathaus, Richard Garren
Joseph En"esser, James V. Porter, r~rs . Alfred Arkell and
Mrs. Raymond Beahan.
Absent: Mr. W. Thomas Rogers, Director of Recreation

Mr. Clausen inquired about if there was anything scheduled for skiing this year? )
Mr. r1aurer said there was a new manager at Dutchess and expected him in this
month and formulate something in this area. In the past there has always .'
been something done and expect to do so again this year.
Mr. Schlathaus expressed a problem in reference to ice skating that they
couldn't get anyone to remove snow on Myers Corners Pond and have a problem
with the lights always be shot out. The area needs to be policed but as
brought out by Mr. Maurer at one of the Seminar's that this seems to be a
country wide problem on vandelism.
Representatives from the Rockingham Civic Association: Messrs. Dan Murray,
Ben Caccavale, Pete Alderese and Richard Rosenzweig were introduced by
Councilman Louis Clausen and Councilman-Elect Frank Versace. Mr. Clausen
stated that the Association brought it to his attention that there was no
money allocated for Rockingham Recreation and requested Mr. Maurer to bring the
gentlemen up-to-date on the past history of recreation for Rockingham.
Mr. Maurer advised them that the Builder 8 or 9 years ago was able to take the
option of planning and developing a recreation area themselves. Then 3 ro 4
years later after the Builder removed the top soil from land dedicated for
recreation they wanted us to have Town take over area. The site plan and
study found so much soil had been removed that it was near flood plain. We
told them to bring land back to original status and we would take it over.
As of today the Town does not own the land, which is approximately 8 acres,
and is unable to do anything as a recreation site.
Mr. Murray asked if the Town can put any pressure on builders and not issue
any permits to build until area is completed. He was advised that the problem
lies in the hands of the Town Board and would have to start there.
Mr. Maurer said there may be a possibility to try and have Angel Brook area
located near the Rockingham development side.
Mr. Clausen stated there is an alternative and the Town could turn to Federal
Revenue sharing, but this would have to be presented to them.
Mr. Versace asked the Commissioners if they ever see any of the proposed
recreation area before developments are started?
Mr. MaurerJsaid we see preliminary plans very shortly before they are approved
and get what the developer usually doesn't want and not suitable to build on.
Mrs. Arkell said we use to to come down to Planning Board me~tings to be in on
first development and gave up after not getting anyplace.
Mr. Versace said we will try to work out something towards betterment in work-
ing out some of these problems. Lou and I will be available anytime you do
have problems.
Mr. ~1urray expressed his appreciation to the Commissioners for their concern
and hoped for something can be done by the Town Board for the Rockingham area.

Mr. Garren asked for approval to go to the November 14th meeting at the
Hughsonville Firehouse about a bill submitted by Joseph McCormick. Request
was unanimously granted.

Mrs. Arkell stated that in reference to Summer Program that there was no
equipment at Hughsonville on the first day Monday nor not until Friday. I
personally brought tables over first day. I feel that on the first day every~
thing should be set and ready to go.
Mr. Garren said that one week before areas are open we should make an
inspection. Mrs. Arkell said the Aids should be there 3 days before program
opens to familiarize themselves with program to be given.

Equipment discussed and approved for purchase was a new P.A. System and bull
horns. Also, repair is needed and to be done on horse jumps.was also approved.
CORRECTION - LITILE LEAGUE
Clarification on October 4th minutes in reference to girls being admitted to
Little League. There will be separate teams set up just for girls a~d not
to be misinterpreted that girls and boys will play on the same teams.
