TOWN OF WAPPINGER RECREATION COMMISSION
MINUTES OF JANUARY 4, 1973 MEETING

The regular meeting of the TOwn of Wappinger Recreation Commission
was held at the Town Hall on January 4, 1973 at 7:30 P.M.
Present:

Mr. Rogers reported that the winter recreation:program had started
in the schools. He was having difficulty obtaining someone for the
Wrestling Program, but he would keep trying. He inquired about the
use of the facilities of Parker Brothers located on Robinson Lane.
He brought up the subject of a "Slim Jim" program - a Women's
Exercise Class in the evening. George Schlathaus agreed to contact
Nils Andersson about the possibility ~f him handling this program.
He also reported that he was already making arrangements for the
tickets for the Yankees and Mets baseball games. He asked for
direction for the summer program.
The Commission members discussed the possibility of a Red Cross
Learn to Swim Program. Up to now the childr~n who attended the
playground had to know how to swim.
Jean Beahan gave a report on her meeting on a possible Youth Center,
on December 14, 1972. They discussed this at length---where it
would be located, whose use it would be for, who would be the
governing body--costs involved. Mrs. Beahan said she would contact
these people and make arrangements to meet with the Commission; a
tentative date was set for February 15, 8:00 P.M. Town Hall.
A letter had been submitted by the Commission to the TOwn Board
along with their 1973 Budget, requesting two Tennis Courts at
Martz Field. If the Town Board approved them, the Attorney would
have to draw up the necessary papers for bonding this item. It
was requested that a letter be directed to the TOwn Board asking
what action had been taken on this.
The next meeting was scheduled for February 8, 1973 at 7:30 P.M.
The meeting adjourned at 9:20 P.M.
