1973-02-08 TOWN OF WAPPINGER RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 8, 1973 MEETING ------------------------------------------------------ The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation Commission was held at the Town Hall on February 8, 1973 at 7:50 P.M. Present: Hugh J. Maurer George Schlathaus Richard Garren Jean Beahan James Porter W. Thomas Rogers, Director of Recreation Co Absent: Theresa Arkell Director of Recreation The Wrestling Program was off to a good start; thirty-five to forty children attended; Billy Steinhaus is conducting it. The Women's "Slymastics" Program started and looked like it would be a big success. The space they had was very crowded and he thought two nights would be better than just the one night. Ketcham High School and Wappinger Junior High were booked already; Myers Corners School was available, but they would have to pay the custodian. Mr. Rogers asked for per- mission to make arrangements to use Myers Corners for one night. The Commission seemed to think if the adults were really participating in 'this 'program, they should try to provide two nights. The ski program, need~es to say, wasn't doing too well. Mr. Williams is in charge of the ski program at Parkers World; Mr. Rogers was in tou~h with him but hasn't heard from him further. Fleetwood I I :/ :1 , I f I, i, The Commission discussed the recreation area at Fleetwood. The Highway Superintendent has been dumping "junk fill~' when they are in the vicin- ity, but it is nowhere near filled. Mr. Maurer thought they could possibly rake it through, plant some rye grass for quick cover and have some use of it ~n the Spring. However, nothing permanent could be put in until there o/as a lot more fill added. They would also have to fill in by the pump ~ouse. I I :l l Recreation Commission Minutes 2/8/73 Page 2 Quiet Acres Jim Porter said he has had numerous calls about lighting the recreation area in Quiet Acres at night for sleigh riding. He would be willing to go over and put lights on and off. The other members did not think this was a feasible idea. Mr. Schlathaus suggested a timing device, but it must be secure, otherwise they would have more vandal- ism problems. , . Mr. Joseph Ennesser was present at the meeting for the purpose of being interviewed as a possible member of the Commission. He said he was very interested in the work of the Commission and 'would be more than willing to work with the other members on their own projects. He informed Mrs. Beahan, who is working with the Youth Board on a Community.,Center, that he would gladly assist her. He felt he would be an asset to the Commission. Mr. Garron silid, from past experience, he would agree with Mr. ,) Ennesser, he would be an asset to the Commiss ion. No action was taken on this appointment as there were other members to be considered. Mrs. Sylvia Guarino appeared before the Commission to be interviewed as Secretary to the Commission. Mrs. Guarino told the Board her previous background in the secretarial field and also bookkeeping for some refuse collectors. She asked about the actual hours required and duties involved, and was agreeable to the explanations given her by Mr. Maurer. I Motion made by Mr. Garren and seconded by Mr. Schlathaus to appoint .1 Sylvia Guarino as Secretary to the Commission. All members were in fa vor . Mr. Maurer said he would contact Mrs. Guarino and discuss salary with her. Community Center The Commission had set a tentative meeting with the Youth Board at their Janua-ry meeting. It was confirmed that they would meet on Fabruary 15, 1973 at 8:00 P.M. and Mrs. Beahan would contact this group and arrange for as many as possible to attend. Mr. Schlathaus requested that a letter be directed to the 3M Company, Klepp Wood Flooring Corp. asking information on costs etc. to surface tennis courts. Also, khat a letter be directed to the Town Board asking the status of recreation land ~n the Apple Ridge Development, off ,Kent' Road. # Recreation Commission Minutes 2/8/73 Page' 3 ',.
