The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation Commission was held
at the Town Hall on March 13, 1975. The meeting was opened at 7:55 P.M.
Present: Hugh J. Maurer, Thersea Arksll, George Schlathaus, Joseph Ennesser
and LeJUra Zick
Absent:
Richard Garren and Jean Beahan

~r. Jen D. Wielgas attended the moeting to ask the Commission about what
was going to be done at the Angel Brook Recreation Area. Mr. Wielgas had
heard a rumor that the Commission was going to build a culvert and install
piping. Mr. Wielgas said that if this was done it would cause considerable
damage and flooding to his home. The Commission told ~ir. Wielgas that they
had never had any intention of building a culvert,and that they plan to
have a saucer ditch made to the left of the field in the swamp area. Mr.
Wielgas said a saucer ditch would not affect his home and that he Was
happy to hear that no piping or culvert would be installed.

Nr. George Grimshaw from Rockingham Estates attended the meeting to ask 2
few questions about the Rockingham Recreation Area. hr. Grimshaw wanted to
know if any monies had been appropriated for a ball field. The Commission
informed him that money had been appropiated for a backstop and grading
and that as soon as an agreement with Schoonmaker is arranged then work
will be started. Mr. Grimshaw also wanted to know what work was planned
for the area. The Commission informed him that the plans were to dig nut

the best grass was going to be used for parking. The Commission said no
final decision had been made on the parking area as they wcie waiting for
the Town to make a decision on the sewer plant. Mr. Grimshaw then asked
if the backstop would be in by July. The Commission said that hopefully
it would but they might have to leave it off until, the grass is growing
good. If the field is used to soon after planting then it would be
difficult to bring the grass back. Originally the plans were that
Schoonmaker was to hav~ the area ready to seed by last September so it
could be played on by this spring. ~r. Grimshaw also wanted to know if

Commission doubted if tennis courts could ever be put there because of
the drainage need8d to keep asphalt from heaving. Mr. Grimshaw asked if
trees could be planted, especially along the sewer plant fence. The

plant trees may do so as long as it is cleared with the Commission first.

Mr. Joseph Ennesser reported that the schools wished to use the tennis
courts fro~ ~arch 17 to May 31 from 2:30 to 4:30 daily and also for 7

the week. ;1rs. Arksll motioned to let the schools use 2 courts from
2:JC to L:30 three days a week and to use all 4 courts for the 7 home

ask the Co~~ission for permissiDn to use the Robinson Lane Recre~tion
Areo for a circus. Mr. Huber explained that the residents of Royal Ridge
were spollsoring the circus in order to raise funds to buy a sign and
then donate the remainder to so~e group or organization. The Commission
said that ?e=re2tio~ Areas probably could not be used to raise funds for
peraonal ~ss. If all the proceeds were Joing to charity then they would
be able to help out. The COri1iT1ission then-told hr. Huber about the circus
the Jaycees were planning and suggested that he call Mr. Eberhardt at

Two bids for Pop Warner Protective Equip~ent were received: One from
Wolf's Sporting ~oods in the amount of 998.45 and one form Schumans Army
&.rhvy, Inc. for 927.L;S. The CorTTission unanirlOusly voted to recommend
to the Tcw~ Board that Schumans Army ~ \iJvy be awarded the bid. The
secretary was requested to send a letter a~d the bids to the Town Board..

Th~ [om~issio~ discussad the Co~prehe~sive Plan proposed by the Youth
Board and 8vcryo~e a;reBd t~l~t it was very difficult to understand. The
only clBar thing was that it would ~ake the Commission's job much e~sier
as fer as paper work is concerned, but ~uch nore would have to be
clarified. Tns CO~lnission agreed to send a copy of the plan to hr. Allan

Mrs. Lauro Zick reported tt~at all the Winter Programs had gone well and
the Adult PrDura~' ~~s uoin to be extended about two weeks because of

th~ bowling alley. Mr. George Schlathous suggested that something could
be done with the roller skating. Everyone felt that was a good idea but
decided to wait until ~rs. Jean Beahan could give her opinion.
