The regular meeting of the Recreation Commission of the Town of
Wappinger was held July 3,1980 at Town Hall, Mill Street" Villa,ge

of Wappinger Falls, Dutchess County, New York.
Mr. Maurer opened the meeting at 7:47 P.M.

SUMMER PROGRAM

Joseph Ennesser reported that Bus tri pto Mets :game~on July 26th

was booked. - Signs and rules for Tennis courts # 5~& 6 made by
Ernest Hughes will be finished and up by week-end. - Summer p1ay-
gro~nd program is full and both swim programs are at 11 a.m. and
2 p.m. each day. There is a magic show and bicycle safety program
on July 16th at Bowden Park for Day. A bicycle rack was obtained
for Chelsea.
BANDSTAND
Mr. Frank Presti reported there were two estimates submitted for
construction of bandstand on Recreation property on corner of
Myers Corne~ and All Angels Road. Robert Walsh estimate of $2,100.
without concrete included. Skip Ruit estimate of $3;]b:,.<.,!1,000.00
Labor and $2,014. materials) An estimate of $1,500 for $2,000.00
for materials was suggested and sent to Town Board.
A sketch plan of subdivision plat of Fieldstone Farm Conservation
Density Subdivision on. Spook Hill Road was reviewed and a partial
of this plan ~iscussed for future recreation park. This was taken
under consideration and will review at next meeting of Recreation
Commission.
SOCCER PROGRAM
Mary Schmalz announted the Soccer program for year ended and all
1979 funding from New York State and Dutchess County has been
received. $16,000.00 alloted by County and $2,000.00 by State
of New York.
Two intermediate classes were also held twice a week in the
morning and evening. The~morning class was fairly full, class size
averaging about 16-20. The evening class was not quite as full
average class ~ize was between 12-16. ~.
Classes end Tuesday, June 24th and Wed. June 25th. Thursday evening
(June 26th) from 6-8p.m. some of the participants from the clinics
came down to the Courts for a small get-together.
Two-Round Robbin Doubles Tournaments were held. The Men's Doubles
on June 14th, the Women's on June 21st. The Men's was won by Bill &
Wolmer Stoffel and Arlene Carpenter and Peg Chiarenzelli, the Women's.
More round robbins are being planned for the coming weeks.
The Men's and Women's Ladder has been set up and people have been
challenging quite a bit.
Round robbins started this week. Men's Doubles - Monday evening,
Women's Doubles (Int) two mornings, Mixed Doubles - Wednesday Evenings.
Women's Doubles (Adv) Thursday morning, and Youth- Saturday (12-2).
The second set of clinics are scheduled to begin July 7th the
schedule as Follows:

INVENTORY

Mr. Maurer announced that an inventory of all equipment pertaining
to Recreation has been required by the State.

TENNIS PROGRAM
Ton Petro reported the clinics and special events l~t:'\;~~.'41a-c.e
are as fo11ows- 2 children's clinics for ages 7-11 and 12-16.
Each ran for 8 sessions. The 7-11 year old group remained full for
the entire session. A: few children started dropping out but new

children joined up halfway through the session:.., ',T,he.;.e were con-
sistently between 15-20 children at e~ery class. The~2-16 year
.old ~roup was a little irregular in regard to attendance. Average
attendance was between 12-16 every class.
Two adult begi~ner classes were held twice a week both in the morning
and evening. These classes were quite popular and most people came
fairly regularly.

No specifics have been arra~ged as of yet.

MUNICIPAL AFFAIRS

. Food and Beverages can be served at official gatherings at the
expense of the Minicfpality provided the sum involved is reasonable
in nature. Up to this point in time tha Comptroller has looked
askance at such expenditures based on the constitutional prohibition
against gifts of public moneys for private purposes (State Const.
Art VIII 9 1) Reconsiderat'ion of the issue' has produced a different
result. A Town may now expend a reasonable sum of money to provide
refreshments for the general public at official Town functions.

NEW BOARD MEMBER

Mr. William Wood was approved as a member of the Recreation Commission
and a letter has been sent to the Toww Board for their approval.

Ron Petro made a motion to adjourn meeting it was seconded and the
meeting adjourned at 9:38p.m.
