RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES

The regular meeting of the Rec~eation Commission of the Town of Wappinger
was held on September 4, 1980 at Town Hall, Mill Street, Village of
Wappingers Falls, Dutchess County, New York.
Mr. Maurer opened the meeting at 8:30 P.M.
present: Hugh J. Maurer, Chairman, Ron Petro, Frank Presti, Mary Schmalz and
Bill Wood
Mr. Maurer had previously sent copies of communications and literature on
Trail DeveloPment in the Town to the Town Board, but had received no
communication from them. He asked that a letter be sent to them asking
their reaction to this project.
Mrs. Schmalz reported that she had contacted Van Guard Roof Company to
look at the barn on Montfort Road tO,determine it condition and had also
contacted an architect and she expected reports fDom them. She, had not
gone forward with this since she did not have authorization to spend money
on an architect's report. She needed the go ahead plus the sum of money
that could be expended. There was also the possibility of this work being
qualified for the Grant 'Program and she would research this.
Mr. Petro reported that the Tennis Tournament would be the following
week-end; the sport would continue through the monbh of September.
The trip to the 1980 Open had been very successful and enjoyed by all.
Resurfacing of the courts was still being pursued by him and as he received
any figures, he would report them, and they would decide if it could be
done this Fall or ~ait to Spring: or perhaps just start in the Fall and
get a firm commitment for the entire job. The amount in the budget would
not cover the job, but it was possible they could carry that amount over
to the following year if they had, a commitment and price to submit.
The Horse Show date was set for September 21st and 28th, later changed
to October 5th instead of the 28th, and again changed due to conflict of
dates to October 12th, 1980. Mr. Maurer was updating the prize list and

planned to meet with Mr. Ennesser to finalize plans for the Show.
He had ordered the trophies and ribbons and picked the judges for
the event and hoped they would have a good showing.
Mrs. Schmalz then introduced Mr. Joseph Mastroianni, an applicant for
the vacant position on hhe Commission. Mr. Mastroianni then gave an
oral resume naming his former employment, as he was now a senior citizen
and interested in that area if he was appointed to the Commission. He
had been a Regional Director in the New York Office of Emergency Pre-
paredness of the Public Healhh Department and had worked at preparing
budgets: he had worked with Social Services and the Red Cross, also in
Recreation in Tivoli, New York and assisted at the Dutchess County Fair
for several years with the Children's Program. His wife had been President
of the Dutchess County Association for Senior Citizens and was now on that
Board. Mr. Maurer informed him that the Commission was interviewing
other applicants and they would be in touch with him when they were
ready to make a recommendation to the Town Board.
Mr. Presti moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Mr. Petro and
carried.
The meeting adjourned at 10:45 P.M.
