Next Meeting July 14, 1983
The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation
Commission was held June 9, 1983 at Town Hall, Mill Street, Village
of Wappingers Falls, County of Dutchess, Nsw York.
The meeting was called tD order at 7a50 by Chairman Hugh J.
Maurer with the following persons present a Joseph Mastroianni, Mary
SchmalZ, Bill Wood, Renald Petro, and Frank Presti.
The minute. of the May 26, 1983 meeting wers approved on
a motion by Bill Wood seconded by Ronald Petro with the following
correctionsa 1. The thxtd pasagraph on the first page, the "s"
be removed from Bill Wood's name, 2. The correct spelling of the
Tennis Director is Heiss, and 3. Page 2 first paragraph it is the
Dutchess County Board of Health.
BASEBALL
Mr. Wood requested 4 No Parking signs for the fence around
the Girla Field at Robinson Lane.
He also stated that the Big Boy League started last week.
HANDICAPPED FACILITIES
Mr. Maurer mentioned that the equipment arrived but that
when he and Mr. Shan went out to layout the room they found Mr. Holt
had some questions on whether the room wa. the proper size. Mr. Maurer.
was to have another opinion as to the correct size for weelchsire. If
there is no probiem, we will gO ahead with the installation.
Mr. Ennesser arrived at the meeting.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Mr. Ennesser reported the followinga
1. Mrs. Renee Ruas has been hired as the Summer Director
and things are going smo.thly regarding the playgrounds.
2. Bud Parsons will be hired for 2 days a week for the
Ranger Rick program at an hourly rate to be paid from
the Directors Salary.

DIRECTOR'S REPORT CON'T
3. Ken Lynn from East Fishkill is sstting up a
gymnastics program for youngsters 5 and up which
will be offered to the Town .f Wappingsr residents.
The program is frse and will be held at John Jay
High School. Parente will have to transport their
children. A special registration will be held for
this program.
4. It was decided that Playground Aides and Directors
would hold work sessions, work on cleaning up
supplies and do attendance reports on rainy days.
They should report to their fields where the Director
will decide whether they should stay or go home.
5. The concerts for this summer are as follows,
June 30th - Dutchess Community College Jazz Ensemble
July 11th - Bsnjo Band
Aug. 21st - Silk & Sounds - 1 Piece Band
October 8 - Dutchess Community College (Tentative)
BLEACHERS
A request was received from Connie Smith to use 2 bleachers
for the July 24th Tricentennial Paraqe in Poughkeepsie. It was
decided to let her have the 2 bleachers that are by the Flag Pole
at Schlathaus Park. They will do the transporting.
POP WARNER
Mrs. Schmalz asked if the fields at Quiet Acres could be
used in August as a back up for practice for Pop Warner. Mr. Ennesser
said they were available.
POND AT APPLE RIDGE ESTATES
It was decided that a letter be written to Chari.s and Betty
Johnson to set up a meeting with the residents of the Pond Area to
begin at 1100 on June 21st at the Pond. Rain date would be the 22nd.
The Town Board would also be notified of this meeting.
YOUTH BUREAU
Mrs. Schmalz attended the meeting of the New York State
Division for Youth. Mr. Morris M. Silver, Deputy Director of Lecal
Services led the Hearing an Codes, Rules and Regulations for Youth
Development and Delinquency Prevention Program.
Also discussed was setting up guidelines for charging naminal

currently being run.

YOUTH BUREAU CONtT
Mrs. Scnmalz found out that 175,000. is available for
towns with a population over 20,000. which could enable tne town to
set up its own Youth Bureau.
SOCCER
The 19 and over soccer league is going nicely and might
continue through the summer.
BROCHURE
Mr. Mestroianni mentioned that he had taken the brochure
to Pendell Press for estimates. He also met with a representative
from Marshall and Sterling who said they would underwrite it.
SENIOR CITIZENS
A letter was received from Marlene G. Watts, Executive
Director of Dutche.. County A.soc. far Senior Citizens, Inc. indicating
that because of budgeting restraints they are going to have to reduce
the hours of tne Wappingers falls center (K. of C.). As a result of
this cut back, they are asking the Recreation Commission to consider
paying 1160.23 sa they can operate the normal hours. After a discussion
the Recreation Commission Members voted to give the,. this money. All
were in favor. Mr. Mastroianni will speak with Mr. Cuatt.

EMERGENCY JOB PROGRAM
Mr. Mastroianni met with Mr. LePar to discuss possible projects.
They came up with the fallowing.
1. beautifying the parks - Robinson, Martz and Schlathaus.
2. sheil for the bandstand at Schlathaus
3. ~drainage at Schlathaus
projects.
Mr. LaPar is to go to the Planning Board to justify these

Mr. Petro mentioned that the lights are now working and the
clinics are going well.
He also mentioned that he could get b:ench:.. for the tennis
courts for about 145. ea. He was told to go ahead and purchese them.

After a discussion on the barn, it was decided that Mr.
Presti review the specs. The Commission will review the recommendations
and costs and present it to the Board.
Meeting was adjourned at 10110 on a motion by Mr. Wood
seconded by Mr. Presti.
