Mr. Maurer called the meeting to order at 7:45 p.m. Present: Hugh J. Maurer, Chairman, Robert Blose, Director, Bill Wood, Joseph Mastroianni, Mary Schmalz and Herbert Stoller. Mr. Maurer introduced and welcomed Mr. Herb Stoller to the Commission. The minutes of the April 5, 1984 meeting were approved on a motion by Mr. Wood seconded by Mr. Mastroianni. All were in favor. DIRECTOR'S REPORT Mr. Blose reported the following: 1. The May 15th concert with the U. S. Governor's Band went well. Mr. Blose mentioned that he invited them back for next year and that they seemed receptive. 2. On Friday night, June 1st there is a concert scheduled to be co-sponsored with East Fishki11 Recreation featuring the Wet Head Band. It will be held at the Junior High at 7:00 and should be over by 9:00. Mr. Maurer mentioned that Mr. Blose should recommend to the leader that their behavior and language be appropriate to a school atmosphere since there was trouble last tear at their concert. 3. The tree seedling program recently held at Martz Field went well. 4. Cross Court has been contacted regarding the Senior Citizen Swim Program. The figure quoted was $125.00 per person per season. Mr. Blose said he will wait and contact the "Castle" and see what they could offer. "All Sport" does it for Fishki11 Senior Citizens but they don't seem interested in our program. 5. Playground employees have been hired except for two people for the swim program. The town is having their own program this year under the leadership of Kira Disbrow. Mr. Presti arrived at 3:00 p.m. < . , Minutes May 31, 1984 Page 2 6. A call was received from Dick Bartholomew of Hughsonvi11e granting us permission to use their facilities for the Summer Program. Since they are having their carnival the first week of playground, they requested we use only a small area and that the truck body not be delivered until after the carnival. Since this request was made, Mr. Blose is scheduling the Hughsonvi11e Playground to go to Deer Hill for swimming the first two weeks. There will be early registration. 7. Mr. Maurer will have a truck body delivered to Quiet Acres on June 15th and to Hughsonvi11e on July 2nd. 8. At the Little League Meeting held May 30th mention was made that the roof on the Senior League dugout was off. Mr. Maurer said he would get the necessary equipment to replace it when the manpower is available. 9. A request came from the Mid Hudson Marathon Club for a porta-john at Robinson Lane for a race they are having in September. Since we don't have porta-johns at that site, it was suggested they include the Robinson Lane Road as part of their mileage and use the facilities in the building. Mr. Blose will contact them. 10. The Tennis Program is in place Blose will pick up the benches from Mr. Petro. bulletin board needs to be put up. with Jane Heiss Director. Mr. He also mentioned that the CHELSEA PLAYGROUND Mrs. Schmalz mentioned that Barbara Montross, Director of the Chelsea Summer Playground, requested a phone be installed for emergency purposes. We will check the cost for various types of lines and possibly a pay phone. She mentioned that there is a cupboard at the school house which the Fire Company Commissioners said could be fixed with shelves and a door for our supplies. Mr. Maurer suggested Bill or George Hammond be contacted to do the work. All were in favor of contacting Mr. Hammond and it was suggested that Barbara Montross get with him since she knows what is required. MARTZ FIELD Terry Glass has said he will lock and unlock the field house. The playground personnel will put up and take down the flag each day. Mrs. Meyer of Long Court called and asked that another post be put in by the easement to deter cars from crossing through. . . Minutes Page 3 May 31, 1984 SCHLATHAUS SIGNS Mr. Maurer mentioned that the signs at the above Park have to be moved because of the road construction. He also mentioned that the new rails and letters are ready at Hughes Signs and that they are all paid for. Mr. Blose will pick them up. DoeRS Mrs. Schmalz asked about the new doors for Robinson and Martz Fields. Mr. Maurer said ne needs to get someone to put them on. Mr. Blose volunteered to contact someone to do the work. Mrs. Schmalz asked to be notified when it is done so she can arrange to have the burglar alarm re-wired. Mr. Maurer mentioned that the locks on Martz have been broken and replaced a number of times this Spring. SENIOR CITIZEN TRIPS There was a discussion regarding Senior Citizen Trips. It was mentioned that the Seniors organize the trips and we supply the transportation. Mr. Blose and Mr. Mastroianni will get with Charlie New and Becky Greco and follow up. LITTLE LEAGUE Mr. Wood said that Little League lost its contact at Fairchild for the barrels for the fields but Mr. Wood is still trying other avenues. Mr. Maurer mentioned that Texaco has a $20. deposit on their barrels. He also mentioned that Martz Field is being cut regularly but there is a lot of poison ivy and weeds along the fence. Mr. Wood will get some kids to take care of the weeds but Mr. Maurer mentioned that Bud Cole has to apply the weed killer. Mr. Wood asked Mr. Maurer why R-4 was not being mowed and was told it was too wet. BARN Mr. Presti made a motion that we go forth with the first phase of the barn which is to put on a new roof, seal windows, install new sub floor upstairs and do basic electric. Those in favor were Mr. Presti, Mr. Mastroianni, Mrs. Schmalz and Mr. Wood. Mr. Maurer was against and Mr. Stoller abstained. The Commission voted 4 to 1 to go ahead with the project. ADULT SOCCER Mrs. Schmalz mentioned that the Adult "Seniors" Soccer program started May 24th at the Junior High and at Ketcham. There are 12 teams age 17 and up. They pay all their own expenses. ". , . Minutes May 31, 1984 Page 4 SOCCER Mr. Stoller mentioned some of the problems facing a soccer program in Wappinger. They are as follows: 1. Facilities (fields) 2. An organization to put together a league. 3. Signing up of children - since a lot of Wappinger children are now playing in Poughkeepsie, East Fishkill or LaGrange. Mr. Stoller will be i~harge of looking into getting some program for this fall. BASKETBALL COURT Two bids were received for the repaving of the basketball courts at Martz Field and Chelsea Playground. They were from N. Y. Tennis and J. W. Smith. After reviewing these bids, the Commission felt there wasn't enough information to make an appropriate decision. Mr. Wood made a motion that the Engineer to the Town be asked to make up specs to be sent to various contractors. Mr. Mastroianni seconded the motion all were in favor. CHELSEA BOAT RAMP Mr. Maurer mentioned that he had received a call from Heritage regarding the application for funds and that he thought the blacktop could be done for $6,000. using Town Equipment and Town Employees. As soon as the blacktop is done the dock will be put in. WATERSEDGE SECTION I WATERSEDGE SECTION II RIVERWOOD ESTATES SECTION I RIVERWOOD ESTATES SECTION II After reviewing the revised subdivision maps and based on our field trip, the Commission voted to take money in lieu of land but would consider this further if flat land were 'available. HERRINGTON HILLS SUBDIVISION After reviewing the subdivision map, it was decided to call Barger's Office and arrange a field trip for Thursday June 7th at 6:00 p.m. Since we aren't sure where it is , we will meet at Martz Field and go to Herrington Hills from there. - ---.., '. :' .. Minutes Page 5 May 31, 1984 PORTCO APTS. The Commission reviewed the map of the above and was not sure what our involvement was since apartment complexes usually have their own recreation. It was recommended that the Planning Board be questioned about this.
