Mr. Maurer called the meeting to order at 7:55 p.m. with the following persons present: Hugh J. Maurer, Chairman, Robert Blose, Director, Joseph Mastroianni, Mary Schmalz and William Wood. The minutes of the June 21, 1984 meeting and the July 19, 1984 meeting were approved on a motion by Mr. Mastroianni seconded by Mrs. Schmalz. The following letter was received from Florence Hadshian, Clerk to the Supervisor: August 15, 1984 This is the most recent, revised copy of the plans for the SpookHill Recreation Area. Your members have seen this plan at a recent workshop meeting with the Town Board. The Town Board would like to make this plan official at the Town Board MeeUng on Mond,y, August 20, 1984. Also added to this layout will be the inclusion of some picnic benches, agreed to by Jim Klein at the aforementioned workshop meeting. Please advise the Town Board if there are any major concerns your members may have with this map. Please return this map to me on Friday, August 17, 1984. After reviewing the plans, the Commission recommended unanimously to accept them with the suggestion that the boccie court be placed so that at some future date an additional court may be added. DIRECTORS REPORT The summer program ends tomorrow August 17th, everything went well. We will study the Hughsonville Program further for next year as to attendance and facilities. The Truck body has been returned from Quiet Acres and tomorrow the one from Hughsonville will be returned. The swimming program was excellent this year as we ran our own program. Mr. Blose mentioned that Mr. Foley, of Deer Hil~would see what he could do for the Senior Citizens next year. ,,~:i- " Page 2 MINUTES August 16, 1984 The tennis program needs an overhaul for next season. The attendents will be there for another week. Vandalism at the courts is unbelievable. The basketball court at Chelsea is all finished and the Martz Field Court has been blacktopped but we have to wait 3 weeks before it can be coated and painted. Mr. Blose suggested that maybe lights could be installed and a league formed. Mr. Blose mentioned that there was money in the budget for a slide and jungle gym at Martz Field. The counselors and Mr. Blose feel that this equipment is not necessary and instead it was suggested that the 2 backboards be replaced. It was decided to do this. A bid has been received from Miracle Recreation to fix the playground equipment at Rockingham ($126.18), Martz ($570.75) and Robinson Lane ($870.25). Mr. Blose suggested that the $2,000. in "B" Fund be used to replace the equipment. Mr. Maurer suggested that Fleetwood be checked our and equipment purchased. A motion was made to get this equipment, The following programs are being set up for the fall-winter. 1. Mens Open Basketball 2. Adult Volleyball 3. Chi1drens Basketball and Gymnastics Mr. Blose had a discussion with Y.M.C.A. for an exercise program for the Senior Citizens. The charge for 2 sessions a week - 80 sessions was $1,656. and it would be held at the K. of C. Mrs. Schmalz offered to do this since she is a certified instructor. Mrs. Schmalz and Mr. Blose will follow through on this. Soccer League registration is still going on. About 105-110 have signed up to date. The concert scheduled for tonight with Dutchess Community College was rained out and will not be re-schedu1ed. SENIOR CITIZENS Mr. Mastroianni said the August 14th trip to New Preston, Connecticut went well with 45 going. On September 11th they are scheduling a trip to Shawnee on the Delaware, Pa. and will see the matinee of "Gypsy". Mr. Mastroianni mentioned that he received a letter on copy from Sarah Rogine, Dutchess County Association for Senior Citizens addressed to Frank Versace, Supervisor. In this letter they requested that the Recreation Commission provide extra funds so they could keep the Wappingers Falls Senior Center open an extra hour per week. The Cost of the extra hour in 1985 would be as follows: $6.48 hr. x 1 hr./wk. x 52 weeks = $336.96. The Commission was concerned about the request not being directed to them and were concerned about what action the Town Board took and whose budget the money would be taken from. ~ " ",J Page 3 MINUTES August 16, 1984 PLAYGROUND Mrs. Schmalz mentioned that the playground and swim program was excellent this year and that Mr. Blose deserves the credit. She held a contest for all the children who went on the trip to the Albany Museum writing up their favorite experiences. Prizes were obtained from various merchants. LITTLE LEAGUE Mr. Wood mentioned that the Little League season went well and he is within the budget for Field Maintenance. Play offs are finished and there were many good comments on the fields, from the visiting teams and their parents. They stated that Robinson Lane was one of the best complexes in the State. This year was the first time there were 3 state finals on the same day at the same location. BOAT RAMP Mr. Maurer said the floats are ready to be put in but they are having trouble because of rocks. He is looking into a solution to this. He also mentioned that we need signs and Mr. Blose will look into that. CITIZENS ADVISORY REPORT We will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, August 29th to review the above report. Meeting was adjourned at 9:40 on a motion by Mr. Wood seconded by Mr. Mastroianni.
