Mr. Maurer called the meeting to order at 7:45 p.m. with the following persons present: Hugh J. Maurer, Chairman, Robert Blose, Director and Commission Members Joseph Mastroianni, Frank Presti, Mary Schmalz, Herbert Stoller and William Wood. The minutes of the October 25, 1984 meeting were approved on a motion by Herbert Stoller seconded by Bill Wood. All were in favor. DIRECTORS REPORT Mr. Blose reported that: 1. The Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony went well - Nice crowd. 2. The boys and girls under 12 basketball and gymnastics programs will start January 5th from 9:30 to 12 at the Wappinger Jr. High. 3. The exercise program for Senior Citizens has not yet begun. There seems to be a problem with the'~", so he suggested we do a program ourselves. Mrs. Schmalz recommended that the person doing the program have CPR training. Mr. Maurer questioned whether this was a requirement or just a recommendation and thought we should check on this. PlAYGROUND EQUIPMENT Mr. Blose has been in contact with Mr. Labieniec of Miracle Recreation regarding the replacement of backboards at Martz Field and bleachers for Rockingham. The quote for the backboards was $1,347.15. After a discussion regarding duribi1ity, etc., Mr. Stoller made a motion that we go ahead and order them. All were in favor. The quote for the bleachers for Rockingham should be in soon. Mr. Maurer mentioned that benches be placed by the basketball court. He thought if there was something by the court to sit on them cars might not be driven up to the court area. Mr. Blose mentioned that he has made several trips to the Fleetwood Playground to see about installing playground equipment. He felt that the area, as it is now, is too secluded and didn't feel we should enc~rage the children to be there. After a discussion, it was decided that a letter be sent to the Town Board recommending that equipment not be installed until some work is done in opening up the area, clearing the brush and leveling it off. v- . PAGE 2 MINUTES DEe!MBER 5, 1984 CONCERTS A discussion was held concerning concerts. A suggestion was made that we should try an indoor concert late in February or early March. Mrs. Schmalz thought summer concerts were better although an alternate site should be obtained in case of inclement weather. Mr. Blose will work on these items. SENIOR CITIZENS Mr. Mastroianni mentioned that Mrs. Ballard had called him asking for help in obtaining furniture for the Senior Citizens Room. They went to look at the furniture at-the East End Fire Co. and liked it. Mrs. Ballard will go ahead and order the furniture. A discussion was held regarding the inability to get a quorum present for meetings and therefore having to postpone them. It was decided that a letter be written to Commission Member VernoneSmith regarding this since he has not attended meetings for the past several years. Mrs. Schmalz received a letter of appreciation from the Industrial Soccer League. She also medtioned that the Annual Report went to the County Youth Board. Mr. Presti requested that when sub-division maps are received from the Planning Board he be notified immediately sohhe has time to review them prior to the meetings and make appropriate recommendations. Mr. Wood mentioned rece~ving a letter from Frank J. Worthmann President of Little League. In this letter Mr. Worthman requested the fields needed for the 1985 ball season. It was the opinion of the Commission that he was requesting use of all fields and that this request be denied. It was felt that Castle Point and Rockingham be saved for other requests. We should request a copy of the Ltttle League schedule. Mr. Stoller questioned the availability for a place for ice skating. He was advised that Ye Old Apple Orchard was available but we have no plans for clearing it. It was agreed that the light we have for the pond at DeGarmo Hills be removed. The secretary will call regarding this. Mrs. Schmalz also mentioned that there are a number of small ponds in the area that children use for skating. A review of the budget was made and all were advised to get encumbered bills in by December 15th. Other items brought up included the fol~owing: Mrs. Schmalz requested that an old re~rigerator and stove be purchased for use of the Summer Playground at Martz Field. She referenced a letter from Mary Kay Verba, Commissioner of Parks and Recreation on Day Camp legislation dated October 22, 1984. In this letter several items were mentioned. One was to have a refr~gerator to store lunches. Mr. Blose thought most of the other items did not pertain to us. -~ . . < ~' PAGE 3 MINUTES DECEMBER 5, 1984 It was suggested that Boye Galioto be called to request regular refuse pick up at the Tennis Courts during the winter months.
