Rec. and Parks Convention and Exhibit 3/31 - 4/3 at Kutchers Country Club MEETING ADJOURNED NEXT MEET ING TOWN OF WAPPINGER - RECREATION COMMISSION JANUARY 24, 1985 MINUTES NEXT MEETING FEBRUARY 21, 1985 The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation Commission was held January 24, 1985 at Town Hall, Mill Street, Village of Wappingers Falls County of Dutchess, New York. Mr. Maurer called the meeting to order at 7:55 P.M. with the following persons present: Hugh J. Maurer, Chairman, Joseph Mastroianni, Mary Schmalz, and William Wood, Commissioners. The minutes of the December 5, 1984 meeting were approved on a motion by Mr. Wood seconded by Mrs. Schmalz. All were in favor. Mr. Mastroianni mentioned that he had read in the Southern Dutchess News about a Senior Citizen program at All Sport in Fishki11. The program is sponsored by the East Fishki11 Recreation. He will ask Mr. Blose to look into it to see if the same program could be offered to the Wappinger Senior Citizens. Mrs. Schmalz suggested we approach "The Castle" about a program since they are in our Town. Mr. Mastroianni submitted a proposed form which he felt might be used to survey each program sponsored by the Commission. This survey would keep the members informed about the programs, when they are held, the attendance and the people involved to carry them out. Mr. Mastroianni will ask Mr. Blose to follow up on this issue. Notification was received regarding the 45th Annual New York State Recreation and Parks Society Convention and Exhibition to be held March 31st to April 3rd, 1985 at Kutcher's Country Club, Monticello, New York. It was suggested that a letter be sent to the Town Board requesting permission to attend this Conference. A discussion took place regarding the memo received from Councilman Incoronato regarding a proposed attendance resolution. It was decided that a letter be sent to Mr. Incoronato stating the following: 1. We believe that we have qualified skills in recreation and that these rigid restrictions are improper and would not attract the proper people as members of the Commission. 2. We also feel that after the absentee limit is exceeded, the Chairman of the Town Agency should determine if the absences are associated with extenuating circumstances or not. If the Chairman feels that the absences are not warranted, he then would notify the Town Board for action. We believe that the Town Board has enough other responsibilities than to worry about absenteeism on the various Town Committees. Page 2 MINUTES January 24, 1985 A discussion was held regarding the election of a Vice Chairman for the year 1985. Mr. Wood moved to appoint Frank Presti as Vice Chairman for 1985 seconded by Mr. Mastroianni. Mrs. Schmalz opposed. Mr. Maurer brought to our attention the law suit which is pending, regarding an incident at Martz Field in September 1984 involving a youngster and his motorcycle. He mentioned that we did act as a body to recommend barracades be placed at the Town Recreation sites to deter vandalism at the various parks. Signs have previously been placed at the parks but most have been removed or destroyed. Mr. Maurer felt that these two points may be brought up regarding the incident. Mr. Maurer mentioned that he has been trying to get maintenance personnel for this year and is finding it difficult because of the salary offered. It was decided that a letter be sent to the Town Board stating that we are in the process of setting up our 1985 maintenance work force and that we are having difficulty getting people and ask them what salary they would be willing to pay. Also included in the letter would be a request for the salary guidelines for a maintenance supervisor. Mr. Mastroianni asked about monies available for the Seniors trips and special events. He was advised to go ahead and plan the trips for 1985 as there is about $2,000. in the budget for them. The secretary reported the following for Mr. Blose, who was absent: The exercise program has been moved from Myers Corners School to the Evans School - Attendance is low at the present time with about 20 people attending. Aerobics is a smashing success with 80 people attending. Registration had to be closed. Saturday morning gymnastics has 100 children signed up. The flag at Sch1athaus Park has been fixed by Mr. Blose. The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 P.M. on a motion by Mr. Wood seconded by Mr. Mastroianni. <Y~%~ (K~ Pe ggy Roe Secretary After the meeting was adjourned Mr. Incoronato asked the Secretary if a reply was received from Mr. Vernon Smith concerning the letter addressed to him on December 13, 1984. He was told that no reply had been received to date at which time he requested that this be noted in tonight's meetings minutes. P.R.
