Mr. Maurer called the meeting to order at 8:10 P.M. with the following persons present: Hugh J. Maurer, Chairman, Robert Blose, Director, Joseph Mastroianni, Mary Schmalz, Herb Stoller, Bill Wood Commissioners and Renata Ballard. Councilwoman. The minutes of the January 24, 1985 meeting were approved on a motion by Mr. Wood seconded by Mr. Mastroianni. All were in favor. DIRECTOR'S REPORT Mr. Blose mentioned the following: 1. There are two minor problems at the Junior High with the Saturday Gymnastics Program and the Wednesday Basketball League. He will be speaking to Mr. Biasotti to clear up the problems 2. He is exploring the prospects for a concert for March. 3. He talked with the Chelsea Fire Company and they would install a phone at the Schoolhouse provided we pick up the monthly charges. FIELD USE APPLICATIONS Two field use applications were received and a lengthy discussion took place regarding the shortage of softball or all purpose fields. Barbara Montross requested 3 fields for a tournament June 22nd and 23rd. Mr. Blose told her that Little League would be using the fields at that time and that possibly the end of July would be better. Mr. Wood mentioned that July could also be a problem if All Star Play was in progress. Mr. Blose will follow this up with Barbara. The second request was for 4 fields from the Sunday Morning Softball League. Mr. Wood said there were only 3 fields available at Robinson, the 2 softball fields and Sr. League 1. They could make use of 2 at Robinson and 2 at Rockingham or 3 at Robinson and 1 at Rockingham. Mr. Blose will work this out with Mr. Dore using the same conditions as previous years noted. It was mentioned that all new fields should be made duel purpose fields since adult leagues seem to be expanding and there are more and more requests for fields. ~ ~ Page 2 MINUTES February 21, 1985 Mr. Maurer mentioned that the dugout at Martz is slowly being taken apart. Mr. Blose noted that money has been put in this year's budget for lights on the basketball court. It was suggested that we get a bid from Black Electric for the necessary work. Mrs. Schmalz asked about the installation of the new doors at the field houses at Robinson Lane and Martz Field. Mr. Maurer will check on this. Mr. Stoller asked about starting the swim study. Mr. Maurer suggested that they pick up some information and talk to some representatives at the New York State Parks and Recreation Conference about how to go about this study. Mr. Wood asked about the pay scale for the temporary maintenance personnel and Mrs. Ballard mentioned that the Town Board had suggested $3.75. She said she would try to check with Poughkeepsie and East Fishkill to see what they do. It was decided that we advertise for a maintenance director. Mr. Blose will include this in his column. Mr. Maurer will try to find out what the average wages are for maintenance when he attends the conference at Monticello. Mr. Maurer told Mrs. Ballard that the Conservation Tree Seedling Project is coming up. The Commission feels that this should be done through the Conservation Advisory Council. Mrs. Ballard said she would try to find some funds to cover the project and we should again ask the Conservation Advisory Council to take over the project. The secretary will get the information from last years purchases and pass it to the Council for their meeting on the 27th. Little League has requested that the water be turned on at Robinson Lane by March 23rd for their tryouts. There was some concern about the pipes freezing if the weather turned cold. Mr. Stoller made a motion that we rent a couple of heaters to be used so the pipes don't freeze. A letter was received from Mr. Incoronato suggesting that the Castle Point Recreation Area be renamed for Kenneth A. Browne who was a resident of Chelsea and who was killed in action during the Korean Conflict in 1951. Since the area was already named the Dratz-Deegan Recreational Area, the Commission suggested thaVthe ballfield located at that area be named the Browne Memorial Playing Field. Copies of the letters naming the field the Dratz-Deegan Field will be forwarded to Mr. Incoronato along with our suggestions. A placque would be placed on the backstop. If Mr. Incoronato and his committee would like to obtain another type of monument, it could also be placed at the site. The Commission requests that a masonry storage building approx. be built at the Spook Hill Recreation Area. .- Page 3 MINUTES February 21, 1985 LANDS OF RUQUS - KETCHAMTOWN ROAD The Commission reviewed the map for the above and will request that a field trip be arranged in the near future.
