Y. 12590 MINUTES SEPTEMBER 11, 1986 NEXT MEETING OCTOBER 9. 1986 at 7:30 P.M. The September 11, 1986 meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation r.ommission was held at Town Hall, 20 Midd1ebush Road, Town of Wappinger, Dutchess County, New York. The meeting was called to order at 7:40 P.M. with the following persons present: Ralph Holt, Chairman and Commission Members Hugh J. Maurer, Joseph Mastroianni, Bill Wood and Ellen Korz. Robert Blose and Nancy Drennan arrived at 8:15. The minutes of the August 6, 1986 meeting were approved on a motion by Joseph Mastroianni seconded by Bill Wood. All were in favor. The following letter was received from the Chelsea Fire District: Dear Sir: When you attended our meeting in June 1986, you assured us that certain matters wrong at the School would be taken care of. We are pleased to report tha t you have kept your word for the most part. However, the fence on the north side of the playground has not been cleared of brush and weeds. This creates a hazard for the children as well as for traffic. We would approciate your taking care of this matter as soon as possible. Thank you. Board of Fir.e Commissioners Chelsea Fire District John G. Todd, Secretary Mr. Holt mentioned that he has spoken to John Vorndran about clearing out the area. It was mentioned that this is not Town Property but Mr. Maurer said we have previously cleared it because it causes a site vision problem. A letter was received from Supervisor Paino requesting a recreation site for the use as a holding area for the storage of abandoned cars picked up by Hans Gunderud, Town Zoning Administrator. The Recreation Commission felt that none of the ttecreation areas are suitable for this purpose and requested that a memo so stating be sent to the Supervisor. ~ -,. Recreation Minutes Page 2 September 11, 1986 CHELSEA BOAT RAMP One bid was received for the construction of the ramp at the above site. Since it was over the allotted amount for informal bids, it was requested that we go out for formal bids next week. Mr. Wood will be glad to meet with the Engineer to the Town Jay paggi to discuss the matter. CASTLE POINT Since the landfill site is now almost to capacity, Mr. Holt and Mr. Maurer will make a field trip with Mr. Croshier, Superintendent of Highways to see now to layout the area to see how much more fill we can use. RECREATION MAP Mrs. Drennan mentioned that she thought a map showing the recreation areas should be drawn up and that we should contact Jay Paggi Engineer to the Town to do this map. She felt it~ould show a detailed map of location (streets nearby) and facilities available. The secretary will contact Mr. Paggi regarding this project. SPOOK HILL RECREATION AREA It was noted that the Spook Hill Recreation Area needs to be re- graded and it was the feeling of the Commission that this Fall would be an appropriate time for this project. Mr. Maurer suggested that a letter be forwarded to James Klein stating that it was the understanding of Mr. Maurer and other Town personnel that he would re-grade the area. At the time of the opening of this Playground in 1985, there wasn't enough time to properly grade the area. It was also decided to mention in the letter that the electric at the site still has not been hooked up despite many calls to his office and to the N.Y.S. Electrical Inspector. A copy of this letter should be sent to the Planning Board. FIELDSTONE BOULEVARD For several months the Recreation Commission has been mowing the median at the above. Since this is not a recreation site we don't understand why this should fall under the area of recreation. It was our understanding that we were initially requested to mow it for a one-time help out situation. It was suggested that a letter be forwarded to Mrs. Paino stating that we don't feel it is recreation's responsibility and that we are not putting any funds in our 1987 budget. We request this responsibility be assigned to someone else. ~ ....... Recreation Minutes Page 3 September 11, 1986 EAST FISHKILL RECREATION AREA Mr. Holt mentioned that he had received calls and is meeting with Patrick Manning regarding a 30 acre recreation park. Mr. Manning suggested maybe Town of Wappinger and Town of Fishkill would share in it. Mr. Holt will be discussing this with Mr. Manning and if he feels we can gain from the situation will invite him to a meeting. DIRECTORS REPORT Mr. Blose reported that the winter programs are set up. He already has a written committment from the Junior High and a verbal one from Myers. Programs scheduled to date are Volleyball on Mondays and Open basketball on Wednesday at the Junior High. Volleyball and Exercise on Monday, Aerobics on Wednesday, and Volleyball on Friday all at Myers. The Schlathaus Race is scheduled for October 4th. The medals have been ordered. Pumpkins and cider will be ordered from Diesings. It was requested that a porta-john be delivered for that weekend. Mr. Blose reported that the playground reports are in and that the supplies have been stored at Schlathaus. The Junior High facilities have been requested for boys and girls gymnastics and basketball which will start in January. TENNIS COURTS Mr. Blose reported that the lights at the courts are on at all hours and that someone must be tampering with the electric box and timer. He suggested that the box be place somewhere else or a fence be placed around it. It was decided that a fence be placed around it and that Mr. Maurer call A-I to see if they will install it. MEN'S SOFTBALL LEAGUE Mrs. Drennan reported that the Men's Softball league was very successful with 9 teams playing. QUIET ACRES Mrs. Korz mentioned that fliers were given out in Quiet Acres asking for pros and cons regarding the proposed building at the top of the hill. Of the comments returned only one was negative. 1. '. Recreation Minutes Page 4 September 11, 1986 CHRISTMAS PARTY Mr. Mastroianni mentioned that he ha.d met with several service clubs regarding the Christmas Party and most were willing to help. It was suggested that a letter be sent out "To Whom It May Concern" seeking support of the local merchants for candy, cookies etc. for our party. Mrs. Korz will take the fliers around to area merchants. It was decided to see if we could find someone who would be able to make a Santa Suit. Mrs. Korz will look into this. She was also asked if she would chair the food served at the Party. BARN An estimate was received to take down the building and it was decided that we should discuss this further at our meeting. It was noted that the roof is in bad shape and that what we really need is a workable garage. Mr.Holt noted that it has been 5 years and nothing has been done. He felt we must take a stand and either fix it or tear it down. SENIOR EXERCISE Mr. Mastroianni questioned the Senior Exercise Program and couldn't understand what the hold up was concerning the program. It was decided to send a note to Jennifer Van Tuyl mentioning that we are anxious to get the program started as there have been many requests from the Seniors. MEETING ROOM Since the Senior Citizen Room and Town Meeting Room are not available for our meeting on the second Thursday of the month, it was decided to write a letter to the Supervisor requesting the use of the Highway Room for Recreation purposes. The meeting adjourned at 10:15 on a motion by Mr. Wood seconded by Mr. Mastroianni. Q~ 6<K- Peggy Roe Secretary , . .. ,.......
