Y. 12590 RECREATION MINUTES NOVEMBER 12. 1987 NEXT MEETING DECEMBER 10, 1987 at 7:30 P. M. The regular meeting of the Recreation Commission of the Town of Wappinger was held November 12, 1987 at Town Hall, 20 Midd1ebush Road, Town of Wappinger, Dutchess County, New York. Mr. Holt opened the meeting at 7:37 with the following persons present: Ralph J. Holt, Chairman, Bernie Reimer, Director, Commission Members Ellen Korz and Joseph Mastroianni and Maintenance Supervisor John Vorndran. Since there was no quorum, the minutes of the October meeting could not be approved. SENIOR CITIZENS Mr. Mastroianni reported that the trip to Mt. Lakes, New Jersey on November 10, 1987 went well. They had good weather and everyone was pleased with the trip. He also mentioned that a Mrs. Powers is the new Director of the Dutchess County Senior Citizens Association and that she wants to meet with us to go over our programs. The Association has contacted the Zion Church to open up a new center since the K. of C. is now a private club "The Golden Age" and they are not accepting any new people unless they are from the Village. Mr. Mastroianni questioned whether a second place was feasible. He mentioned that as far as he knew we still had not received the money to buy the furniture for the Senior Citizen Room and to get the program going. He felt that something should be done and we either have the Supervisor follow up or he would be willing to do so. Mr. Holt mentioned we should send a letter to the Supervisor and emphasize that we should be looking for a Director for the Senior's Program. (After the meeting Mrs. Paino sppke with Mr. Mastroianni and told him that the money has been received and she has plans to buy furniture after the first of January.) . . --. Recreation Minutes November 12, 1987 Pa ge 2 DIRECTOR'S REPORT Mr. Reimer reported the following: 1. The Fall programs are underway and permission has been received from the Wappinger Junior High to start the Open Basketball on November 4th. 2. He has not gotten the quaites program going yet but hopes to use rathy Yacove11i's Exercise and Volleyball Program and Laura Coombes Open Adult Volleyball Program to get feelers regarding the quaites. 3. A problem has arisen regarding the winter Boys and Girls gynmastics and he had a meeting scheduled with Mr. Biasotti but because of the snow days the meeting was cancelled. Brenda Peura, a certified Physical Ed. Teacher in Beacon, has said she would not do the program unless we are able to use the better equipment and the Jr. High seems reluctant to give us this equipment. Mr. Reimer is checking further on this. 4. The summer transportation bill received from the School has been checked and has been approved for payment. 5. Mr. Reimer has purchased the sound system and it is presently at his home until we can find storage space for it. Eventually we hope to put it in the barn after the new doors are on. He will purchase a couple of cassette tapes forthe Christmas Program. 6. John Jay Brass Ensemble and the Sweet Ade1ines are all set for the Christmas program and they are working up some music for the evening. SPOOK HILL RESTROOMS A letter has been received from the New York State Office of Parks and Historic Preservation regarding our request for funds from the Environmental Quality Bond Act. PASNY FUNDS A letter has been forwarded to Supervisor Paino with our requests for PASNY Funds for 1. Land, 2. Addition for Robinson Lane, 3. Quiet Acres Building, and 4. They mentioned that if a choice had to be made that they would prefer that money be obtained for our project request. BUDGET 1988 A budget meeting was held with the Town Board. Our budget showed a slight increase over the 1987 budge with most going for the Senior Citi7.ens Director and supplies in the "A" side. We also put in a capital request for a tractor and a pick-up truck. SCHLATHAUS PARK Mr. Holt met with Rich Taylor, a carpenter, to look at the stage. He will get back to us in a couple of weeks with a written proposal. He will also build us a platform for dancing. The boiler in the house needs some work done and new flooring is needed in the kitchen. This work will be done and paid for from the Recreation budget since it isn't a big expenditure. ~:. .' ...... . Snow fencing will be placed around the stage end of the rink for the Christmas Program. PHYSICAL INVENTORY We are in the process of doing a physical inventory. It was noted that the Town of Fishkill has had our sod cutter since May. It was suggested that this be brought back since they are unable to use it at this time of the year. The basketball court at Quiet Acres is completed. Robinson Lane and Mart~ Field have been winterized. Mr. Vorndran has placed tulips at Holt Fiel~around the flag pole at Robinson Lane, at the cemetery and at Schlathaus Park. The brush that was picked up during the storm on October 4th and placed at Robinson Lane has been pushed back by the Highway Department. Mr. Holt met with the Zoning Board to discuss the Klein project Nicole Farms. It was mentioned that it was the Town Board who has the decision as to whether it will accept a conservation district forever green. It was also mentioned that we can take something other than money or land and that we can make a counter proposal for services.
