RECREATION MINUTES
JULY 9, 1987
NEXT MEETING AUGUST 6, 1987 at 7:30 P.M.
The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation Commission
was held July 9, 1987 at Town Hall, 20 Middlebush Road, Town of Wappinger,
Dutchess County, New York.
Mr. Holt opened the meeting at 7:35 p.m. with the following
persons present: Ralph J. Holt, Chairman, Bernie Reimer, Director, and
Commission Members Hugh J. Maurer, Ellen Korz, Joseph Mastroianni, and
Bill Wood.
The minutes of the June 11, 1987 meeting were approved on a
motion by Mr. Wood seconded by Mr. Maurer with all in favor.
FLEETWOOD
Mr. Mastroianni and Mr. Vorndran made an inspection of this
area and found it to be in bad shape. Mr. Vorndran will check the
equipment (swings) to make sure it is safe and will continue to mow and
trim. At this time no upgrading can or will be done.
SENIOR CITIZENS
Mr. Mastroianni gave out a questionnaire to the Senior Citizens
at the K. of C. and asked for input regarding what type of programs they
would like to see in the Senior Citizen Room in the Fall. Some questioned
the future of the K. of C. program and they were assured that it would
continue as present. When we get this information compiled, we shall
meet with Mrs. Paino.
SCHALTHAUS PARK
We received a copy of a letter addressed to the Town Board
from Joseph paggi, Engineer to the Town discussing the results of his
meeting on June 9, 1987 with Mr. Holt and Mr. Maurer. Mr. Maurer
mentioned that the test holes were done and the outcome was not favorable.
The Commission felt that with the water and septic as it is
we should write a letter to the Town Board indicating that we agree
with the recommendations as set forth in Mr. paggi's letter. We should
also mention that we hope to keep the "wheels in motion" because we
are forced with a water and septic problem which must be addressed.
CASTLE RACQUET AND FITNESS
A letter has been forwarded to Ron LaSota of the above
indicating that his offer for the use of the pool at his Club came a
little too late for us to put a program together for this summer. We
indicated that we would like to discuss with him in the early part of
next year the possibility of utilizing his facility for next years'
program.

DIRECTORS REPORT
Mr. Reimer mentioned that the first 3 weeks of the summer
program were "very interesting".
He received several complaints from Spook Hill 1. regarding
the one portajohn and 2. the ratio of counselors per children. One
parent felt we should have one counselor for each 10 children attending.
It was our feeling that this ratio was for a day care center and not a
playground. Mr. Reimer is checking on this. Spook Hill had about
90 children the first two days.
Hughsonville Playground had about 90 children sign up for
swimming and since our contract with Deer Hill allows 55 children we
have had to restrict it to those for lessons not for free swimming.
The magic show scheduled for July 2nd had to be rescheduled
for July 15th because of rain.
Wappinger Transportation is still giving us a hassle with our
request for buses. A schedule was turned in to Keith Harvey per instructions
received by Mr. Holt after his conversation with him. Amy Slacin, Summer
Director has not received confirmation from Mr. Harvey since the schedule
has been turned in even though she has placed many calls to him. Mr.
Holt said he would follow up on this the next day.
The first concert by Nick Seeger and the Nick Seeger Band went
well even though there was a threat with the weather. The July 8th
concert by "Stolen Moments" had to be cancelled due to a storm and no
power. We will try to reschedule them in one of the open dates in
August. Mr. Reimer mentioned that the ban showed up from Kingston and
requested that they be reimbursed $25.00 for gas money. Mr. Wood made
a motion that this be done seconded by Mr. Holt. Mr. Reimer mentioned
that he has gotten the Poughkeepsie New Yorkers as a back up for the
Sweet Adelines. He is still working on getting someone for the 26th of
August.
He mentioned that the Tennis Court Display was torn down and
destroyed.
He also measured for the proposed basketball court at Quiet
Acres. He said the one at Spook Hill is 48 x 82 which is standard size.
Mr. Croshier will give us an estimate on how many tons of blacktop we
will need. We will also need to order another pole and backboard.
ROBINSON LANE
Mr. Wood mentioned that the fence at R-4 has not been lowered
yet. It was requested that the Secretary call A-I and get a date for
the completion of this project and also for fixing the Quiet Acres
backstop. Little league is taking care of putting in the batters boxes
on R-l &R-3. We are splitting the costwith them. The dugouts have been
painted. Playoffs will be starting on Sunday the 12th.

SCHLATHAUS PARK
Mr. Maurer mentioned that the underground electric is in but
not inspected yet. We still need a box built on the back of the stage
for the panels and switches. Silvestri will be back on Friday to finish
up.
CHAIRMANS REPORT
Mr. Wood and Mr. Holt attended a meeting at the Chelsea
Schoolhouse on July 2nd regarding the Boat Ramp. About 46 people
attended and discussed the safety of the ramp and possible solutions.
Mrs. Paino questioned Mr. Holt as to whether we were asking
for PAS NY Funds for anything at Castle Point. She felt that because
the lines go through that area funds should be requested for that
Recreation Site. Mr. Holt mentioned that a report would be submitted
for this area.
Mr. Holt plans on inviting Peg. O'Leary to one of our next
meetings to discuss funding.
There is a plumbing problem at Martz Field and that should be
fixed on Saturday. A new tank will be installed
NICOLE FARMS
In reviewing the subdivision plat for the above, it was
noticed that 30+ acres would be given for recreation purposes. If
this is the case we would like to set up a field trip.
PINE CLOVE HOLLOW
After reviewing the subdivision plat for the above, the
Commission voted to take money in lieu of land.
The meeting adjourned at 9:45 p.m. on a motion by Mr. Wood
seconded by Mr. Maurer.
