MINUTES NOVEMBER 17, 1988
NEXT MEETING DECEMBER 8, 1988
The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation
Commission was held November 17, 1988 at Town Hall, 20 Middlebush Road, Town
of Wappinger, Dutchess County, New York.
Mr. Holt opened the meeting at 7:34 with the following persons
present: Ralph J. Holt, Chairman, Bernie Reimer, Director, Commission Members
Nancy Drennan, Ellen Korz, Joseph Mastroianni, William Wood and Maintenance
Supervisor John Vorndran. Herb Stoller arrived at 7:40.
The minutes of the October 13, 1988 meeting was approved
on a motion by Mr. Wood seconded by Mr. Mastroianni with the following correction,
"Page 3 Lot 119 should be 19."
CORRESPONDENCE
A thank you letter was received from Mrs. W. G. Glenney of
Coventry, Connecticut thanking us for the prize for the balloon race.
A letter was received from Frank Masci of the Wappinger United
Football Club requesting the use of Rockingham on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays
Saturdays and Sundays for the Spring of 1989. He informed us that enrollment
in the program has increased by 50%. This letter was also forwarded to the
Town Board and we have been notified that a workshop will be set up in the near
future. Also attending the meeting were several members of the Soccer Club of
which a Mrs. Arlene Rider also brought up the need for exclusive use of Rockingham.
Mr. Holt mentioned that we understand their problem and are doing what we can but
we just haven't been able to acquire land suitable for a Soccer Complex. He
mentioned that we had taken a look at the Airport property by the New Hackensack
Reformed Church and found it to be unsuitable. Mrs. Rider question the Briar
Lane property and was told that it was probably too wet. Other property they
suggested was the McMahon property on Widmer Road. Mr. Holt said that he had
written to Mr. & Mrs. Sung on Widmer Road property and will write a letter to
Charboro Realty regarding property on Robinson Lane and to Mrs. McMahon regarding
the availability of those properties. A request was also made for a porta john
and they were told that because of vandalism the Company would not deliver one
to that site. Mr. Holt mentioned that this would be discussed further and we
will see what we could do. Another suggested property:for investiagtion was the
White Property.
A letter was received from James Klein regarding the proposal
of a building for recreation fees for Nicole Farms. In the letter he proposed
a 32' x 36' (2176 sq. ft.) building which would cost $86,200 of which he would
pay $54,700. The Commission was not receptive to this proposal.

We received a copy of a letter sent to the Town Board from
Peter Paggi of Paggi & Martin giving the results of the bids for the proposed
recreation buildings at Quiet Acres and Robinson Lane. Mr. Paggi recommended
that the bid be awarded to Sun-up Enterprises for $51,862.00.
Mr. Holt mentioned that a letter has been sent to Mr. & Mrs
Rodney Sung regarding the purchase of their property on Widmer Road. A
request has been sent to the Town Board to use the Senior Citizen Money in the
account 00-06-7140.1 for the purchase of a pick up truck. He has also
requested that the members of the Commission be paid a stipend for attending
meetings as are the Planning and Zoning Board Members.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Mr. Reimer reported that the Halloween Party was a great success
and was very pleased with the attendance. Mr. Holt thanked Mrs. Korz and Mr.
Reimer for all their work on organizing this event. Mrs. Korz mentioned
that she had sent a thank you note to McDonalds for all their support in this
event.
Mr. Reimer reported that the new Schlathaus Signs had arrived but
that the plastic tracts were not assembled yet. He mentioned that the cost
may be a little more because they were adding two additional rows. Mr. Wood
questioned this expenditure but was assured that in many cases more room was
needed to put up messages. It was suggested that the boards be put up as soon
as possible especially to reflect the new name "BREXEL-SCHALTHAUS"
Mr. Reimer had not pushed yet on orgaizing the Winter Concert
because we are still hoping to get the West Point Band. Mr. Reimer will contact
them toward the end of December. Steve Johnson, Magician has approached him and
would like to do a Winter Gala presentation with 6 or 7 acts for $600.00. It was
suggested that this be explored if the West Point Band is unable to do this concert.
The Christmas Party is coming along with the music being
the major problem. Mr. Reimer is still working on this. Candy canes and decorations
are in. Mrs. Korz will contact Sandra Goldberg to say something for Hanukkah.
She also noted that the Menorah should be lit on December 3rd. Mr. Fisher of
the Town of Wappinger Little League has been contacted to do Santa and the
New Hackensack Fire Company will again bring him via Fire Truck.
SENIOR CITIZENS
Mr. Mastroianni mentioned that he had checked with the Zion
Church group about the exercise class and found that they have about 8 -20
participants. They do not feel that it is a duplication of services for the one
at Town Hall on Wednesdays and hope that it will be continued.~

A suggestion was made previously regarding the possibility
of building a boccie court by the parking lot at Town Hall. We are still
working on this.
Mr. Mastroianni suggested that we consider holding bridge
tournaments at the Senior Citizen Center. Mr. Stoller said he will check on
this regarding how to run them and sign ups etc.
The bus trip on December 7th to Pomona N.Y. is all set.
Mr. Holt mentioned that he received an invitation to the
Senior Citizen luncheon at Zion Church on Monday, November 21st. He will be
unable to attend but hopefully Mr. Wood will be able to attend.
LAWRENCE SUBDIVISION
Mr. Wood and Mr. Holt met with John Lawrence and advised
him that we are interested in 6 1/2 acres in back of the Subdivision. After
our initial request we asked for lots 27, 28, 29 and 31 and Mr. Lawrence
emphasized that he would loose money if he gave us this property. He is
looking to purchase other property and therefore did not get preliminary
approval from the Planning Board yet.
REESE PROPERTY
Mr. Mastroianni spoke with Glenn Doctermann, of Bowdoin
Park regarding the Reese Park Trails. He mentioned that possibly the Boy Scouts
would work on developing the trails. Mr. Mastroianni gave him a copy of the
Reese Park Trail book and it was suggested that we invite him to our January
Mee ting .
The bathroom and heat has been completed in the Barn. We
should be looking into an alarm system to be installed
If there is any money left in the budget we should purchase
some bleachers and tables.
