The meeting wa~ called to order at 7:30 p.m. with thw following per~on~ pre~ent: Ralph J. Holt, Chairman, Bernie Reimer, Director, Commi~~ion Member~ Ellen Korz, Hugh J. Maurer, Jo~eph Ma~troianni, Bill Wood and Donald Rider, and Maintenance Supervi~or John Vorndran. Also attending wa~ newly elected Pre~ident of the Town of Wappinger Little League Gary M&nsching. The minute~ of the October 17, 1989 meeting were approved on a motion by Mr. Wood ~econded by Mr. Ma~troianni with all in favor. DIRECTOR'S REPORT The indoor concert i~ ~cheduled for tomorrow night, November 17th at the Roy C. Ketcham High School. The band i~ "Adam and the AII-Star~". Mr. Reimer reported that he had ~poken with official~ at the Jr. High and wa~ told that they are hoping for a December opening of the gym. They are now putting a new coating on the floor and in~talling bleacher~. All the other program~ are running ~mooth~y. The volleyball program i~ double la~t year~ regi~tration. Saturday morning program~ will ~tart. in January. Len Reed ha~ agreed to come back and do the ba~ketball program. Mr. Reimer a~ked if there were any comment~ or correction~ on the Summer Report and Per~onnel Manuel. It wa~ ~ugge~ted we review it and get back a~ ~oon a~ po~~ible with any comment~ so the report can be reproduced and ready a~ ~oon a~ po~sible. The pool ha~ been clo~ed and Mr. Holt a~ked Mr. Reimer about a commitment for 1990. Mr. Reimer felt that they are very clo~e to opening next year and we would po~~ibly be able to u~e it a~ in previou~ year~. Mr~. Korz que~tioned about the Ca~tle and it wa~ ~ugge~ted we find out who bought it with intere~t for our Senior Program~. The Halloween Party went well. Although the railing wa~ a problem ~ince the young~ter~ couldn't ~ee the magician over it. The children were then invited on the ~tage to watch and proceeded to ~it on the railing. Mr. Holt thanked Mr~. Korz for all her work on obtaining the magician, prize~ etc. .. Recreation Minutes Page 2 November 16, 1989 SENIOR CITIZENS Mr. Mastroianni mentioned that the next Senior trip is planned for December 7th to New Hamption, New Jersey Playhouse. Mr. Holt mentioned that he had attended the Senior OPen House and felt 2t went well. SOCCER Mr. Rider mentioned that soccer season is almost over and that the porta john can be removed after Sunday. The request to put the truck body at Rockingham is on the Planning Board Agenda again. Mr. Rider questioned about getting rest rooms at Rockingham and it was decided we couldn't do that until we settle the soccer/baseball problem. He also stated that for the 90-91 season they would need additional fields. He felt they could make 1 small field there but would need another large field. Mr. Wood suggested 1 large field and 1 small field at Quiet Acres. We would have to roll it but could make it playable and hopefully we won't have the rain we did last year. SOFTBALL Mr. Rider asked about putting fill in the road at Castle Point. Mr. Holt mentioned that Mr. Croshier said we..could use all the sweep:Lngs. Mr. Reimer, Mr. Rider, Mr. Vorndran and Mr. Holt will meet at Castle Point to lay out the lower field. ROBINSON LANE Mr. Wood mentioned that the painting hasn't been finished at the above Park. They haven't done the Girls Field and Senior League Field. He also mentioned that there are 9 tables out there and suggested that they be brought back to the barn and stored there. The fences are up on the new field but the dug out isn't in. Mr. Mensching said that he hopes that they are in by opening day. The new R-2 is in and it was mentioned that we would pay for the footings and cement if they get the block and the labor. Mr. Wood asked Mr. Vorndran if he could change th~ number from the old backstop to the new one. Mr. Mensching said that they hoped to make an instructional field where the old backstop is. MAINTENANCE Mr. Vorndran mentioned that they had dug the posts for the Tennis Courts and the old hples were only 10-12" deep. They hope to pour concrete tomorrow. Recreation Minutes Page 3 November 16, 1989 They have been working at Reese Park cutting up dead trees. Mr. Maurer suggested that we try and burn them instead of pushing them over the bank. CHRISTMAS PARTY Mr. Vorndran mentioned that the Menorah is almost completed. The Christmas Tree will be decorated next week. Letters will be sent to the Councilmembers and Councilmembers elect inviting them to the Tree Ceremony December 3rd at 6:00 P.M. It was suggested that we have only 1 coffee and 3 hot chocolate and hot ciders. Mr. Fisher has agreed to be Santa. Church. Santa and Mr. Holt has gotten the same choral group from St.Columba-St. Denis The secretary will contact the New Hackensack Fire Company to bring to use the kitche~ to warm the cider and hot chocolate. Mr. Reimer will contack Meadowbrook for decorations, apples, cider and donuts. Mrs. Korz will contact Mrs. Sandy Goldberg to speak for Hanukah. Mr. Vorndran will see that the barrels are out for the fires. Mr. Holt asked Mr. Mensching if the Little League would do the popcorn again this ~ear. He will check on this. CHELSEA PLAYGROUND A letter was received from Chelsea Fire District telling us that we will no longer be able to use their facilities for a playground. Mr. Holt suggested to Mr. Vorndran that we get all of our equipment out of the building and off the premises. We should also have our phone line disconnected. We feel that we will have some problems with the residents but we feel we will now have to go forward with the Castle Point Area. PLANNING BOARD Mr. Holt and Mr. Wood attended the Planning Board Meeting on Monday where a discussion was held regarding Frank Buyokowski's commercial subdivision. At that meeting Mr. Hawksley, Planning Board Chairman mentioned that in the past we had not taken money or land for commercial subdivisions but that Attorney to the Town Thomas Wood said that it was legal to do so. After a lengthy discussion it was decided to put on hold for 2yeaJ:!s the 20 acres in question for soccer fields. In that time he cannot sell it and hopefully ean work with the Town Board and Planning Board to turn it over to the Town. Mr. Holt asked if in good wilL.he could loan the use of the land to us and Mr. Buyokowski said he would get back to him about that. .' - Recreation Minutes Page 4 November 16, 1989 SCHLATHAUS PARK Since there are no funds left in the Schlathaus Fund, we will not be able to do the water and septic this year. Mr. paggi will be contacting Mr. Holt in the next few weeks regarding this. P.O. SYSTEM A new purchase order system has been put in place and there seems to be a few questions regarding the new procedures. It was suggested that a letter be written to Supervisor Paino asking if someone would attend our meeting to explain the procedures and answer any questions.
