MINUTES, OCTOBER 11, 1990
NEXT MEETING NOVEMBER 8, 1990 AT 7:30 AT SCHLATHAUS PARK
The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation
Commission was held October 11. 1990 at Schlathaus Park, All
Angels Hill Road, Town of Wappinger, Dutchess County, New
York.
The meeting was called to order at 7:55 p.m. with the
following persons present: Chairman, Ralph J. Holt, Director
Bernie Reimer, Commission Members Ellen Korz, Joseph
Mastroianni, Hugh J. Maurer, Donald Rider and Maintenance
Supervisor Joh-n VOl-ndl-an.
The minutes of the September 13, 1990 meeting were
approved on a motion by Mr. Rider seconded by Mrs. Korz with
all in favDr.

A letter was received from Michael A. Schwall, Sr.
stating he was sorry for the confusion, but he felt
Supervisor Smith understood the charges for the work done at
the boat ramp. He stated that the labor was over $600. and
although he used and operated his own pile driver and crane
he did not include the personal services in his fee of
$1,500. It was felt that this would have to be paid and a
veeucher will be feerwarded tee M"i-. Schwall fe.r his signature.
A letter was received freem Angela Randolph, SecretaiY of
the Poughkeepsie Womens ~ Slow Pi tch Se.ftball League
lequesting the use of OU"i- facilities for a weekend tOLn-nameJlt
in June of 1991. It was felt that there might be problems
with that time frame due to the Little League playoff
schedules. Mr. Reimer will look into this and give us a
recommendation at the next meeting.
A letter was received from the Town of Wappinger Soccer
Club giving background information on the formulation of the
league, copies of their bylaws, budget and team roster. They
would like to discuss with the Recreation Commission the
possible areas of support and cooperation they might receive
from the Towrl. At the present time this is on hold per the
request of the Te.wn BoaJ-d. It was again noted that the
softball league would not be removed completely from
Rockingham until the Castle Point fields are ready.
A letter was received from Philip Fox of Boots and Bows
stating that their program has been moved from Van Wyck
School gym to Ketcham cafeteria for the 90/91 season. All
dates and times are the same.

The winter programs scheduled to start these last two
weeks at the Junior High are on he.ld since they are sti 11
doing repaii-s at the School. It affects the Wednesday night
Mens Basketball program and the Tuesday Volleyball program.
The Myers Volleyball program started with 38 people attending
the 1st session. Aerobics starts at Myers on Monday~ October
15th.
The Schlathaus race was held last Saturday, OctobeJ 4th
with 68 adults and 15 children participating. It was the
biggest turn out so far for this race.
Mr. Reimer mentioned that the alternate site for the
Halloween party will be Myers Corners School. The ad is all
ready and he questioned whether it should be put in the 17th
OJ 24th papei-. I twas suggested it be p I aced in the paper on
the 24th. Mrs. Korz mentioned that she has contacted
Supei-visor Constance Smi th and Town Clerk Elaine Snowdeil to
be the judges along with Sylvia Holt. She will also make up
the numbei-s used for judging. Mr. Rider said he will be
available to help decorate.
FOi Christmas Mi-. Reimei- said he had received a fl iei
fi-om a group from Westchester. They are a professional group
of 3, 4 OJ 5 people and they come dressed as either Santa
Claus or Dickens. They would perform outdoors roaming
thi"ough the ci-owd and perfe.rming on stage for 20 minutes.
They would agree on a rate of $200. per person. It was
uilanimousl y approved to have 4 perfonrcers. The date is
December 2nd with rain date of the 9th.
TherE> is a goc,d chance that we wi 11 get the West Po i nt
Band for the early part of March. The letter of formal
request has been typed and after speaking with a
j-epresentative fi-om West Pe.int Mr. Reimer fel t they were
iilterested in de.ing a show here as it would give them the
npPoi-tllni ty te. pre.mote theii- summer schedule. The cCcilcert
would be held at Ketcham High School. The only charge to us
would be that we provide a meal or light refreshments and
being that they are so close it would probably be the
refreshments.

Mi.. Mastroianni reported that the tr ip to Hawley, Pa.
went well with 47 Senieers geeing. The ne}~t trip is scheduled
for Derember 6th to East Andover, N.J.
Mr. Mastroianni and Mr. Holt will meet on Monday at
12:30 at Schlathaus to go over the Senior program. Mr. Holt
is scheduled to present a program to the Town Board early in
November.

Mr. Rider reported that soccer is requesting that a
fence be placed on the north side of the pond to the creek to
separate the parking from the field. (By the water plant.)
It was suggested that telephone poles be placed there
instead. Mr. Maurer mentieened that fences cut down 011 the
uses of the fields. Mr. Rider also mentioned that they need
tee plan fo\- ne}~t Spring"s program and that they are
interested in fields etc. Mr. Holt reported that we hope tD
have the 2nd sc.ftball field at Cast Ie Po i nt in by Bpi i ng and
also that Fishkill is proceeding with their two fields. At
the present time we are not in a position to give any
information on fields.
The\e has been a problem getting a P.O. to purchase more
marking chalk. It was suggested that soccer look into using
paint to do some of their lines. Mr. Rider asked if the
Commission would consider purchasing a paint machine. He
was tccld that we dCen"t do it for Little League and we are not
in a position to do it now for soccer.

Mr. Holt reported the following:
1. He will be presenting the Master Plan to the TO\lm
Board on November 5th.
2. The golf progi-am went well although thei-e wei.e many
of the same participants attending this time as last time.
Hopefully we wi 11 be able to run another program in Decembei
and we will have seeme new participants.
3. A lot of work has been done at Castle Point and
hopefully the work on the shelter will start on November 1st.
All volunteers will be 101m-king on the construction. All wp
have to pay for is the materials. The fireplaces are now
romplete. The grates have been installed and sealed so they
cannot be removed.

4. Mr. Holt has spoken with Jay Paggi, Engineer to the
Town regarding the well and septic for Schlathaus. They have
\o'mrked out a site fc.r the well and we are planning on doing
the well this Fall. Mr. Holt, Mr. Maurer and Mr. Paggi
will meet soon to discuss the septic and what can be done to
improve the system.
5. We will be doing some work clearing out Reese Park.
this Fall. Mr. John Beale, (a neighbor of Mrs. Reese) has
been in touch with Mr. Holt and he mentioned that he has
some ideas on how to improve Reese Park. He will be getting
with us soon to discuss them with us.
6. Mr. Rider asked about having Quiet Acres rolled this
Fall as a stai-t for the Spring season. Mi-. Vorndran will
check with Mr. Humeston about rolling it when he spreads the
clay.
