There were no complaints from any attendees. 2. They had an impromptu barbeque for Regina Waldron's (craft teacher) birthday. 3. There was a bowling party held on September 18th at Holiday Lanes. 4. There are 32+ seniors on the waiting list for the Cente~ 5. Mrs. DeLisa has met with Ellen Fabian from the Jr. High and they are now trying to work out the video "What Wappinger Was?" to coincide with a school cirriculum. She also has been in contact with Mike Mc Cartney of Cablevision and John Monahan of the School District. 6. Susan Schlack from Dutchess Community College has been helping at the Center on Wednesdays and Fridays as part of her field internship. 7. Chase Manhattan Bank has offered space for an Art Shew for the Senior Citizen Oil Painting Class. The Show will begin December 1st. Mr. Miller also suggested that she check into holding a show at the Galleria Community Room. 8. In October there will be a Fire Prevention Program, Craft Fair, Flu Clinic, bood pressure screening, Halloween Party and trip to Roseland Ranch. The money from the Craft Fair helps with the Senior's Special events such as bowling parties, Christmas Party, barbeques etc. 9. She has been in touch with Russ Benes of the Elks Club regarding a Town Senior Citizen Christmas Party. They have offered a building, cook and servers and said they would prefer a weekday or Sunday Party. He said they could accomodate 160 seniors with dancing or 200 without. It was suggested it be opened to all Town of Wappinger Seniors and to try for a date during the week. Mr. Holt said he would like to send a letter out to all businesses and professionals in the Town asking for contri- butions toward this project. The reservations would be on a first come first served basis. RECREATION DIRECTOR'S REPORT Mr. Reimer mentioned the following: 1. An application has been submitted to the Dutchess County Youth Bureau for funding for 1993. Mr. Holt said that he had heard that the report submitted was good and that we would be receiving $7,000. funding for 1993. Recreation Minutes Page 3 October 12, 1992 2. He has spoken to Aristocrat regarding a Town Trip to Radio City Music Hall to see the Christmas Show. Since we had a cancellation of a summer concert it was thought that this might be a nice substitute. At this point, it would be too late for arrangements for the Christmas Show so they suggested we do something for the Easter Show. If we do either, we would have to go in with a date and a number of reservations. We would then be committed to pay for that number of reservations. It was suggested that Mr. Reimer work into the 1993 budget a trip to the 1993 Christmas Show. 3. He has spoken to a representative from West Point in answer to our letter requesting an indoor concert for the winter of 1993. They suggested that since the Concert Band has performed for us for the past two years that we have the Jazz Band. We, therefore, have scheduled a concert for Friday, March 5th. We will do something similiar as last year and have a buffet. We will ask Mr. Fisher to work on getting prices for a buffet. Mr. Reimer said that he has already reserved the kitchen, auditorium, cafeteria and band room for that date. Mr. Miller said that he would check with the head of the school cafeteria to see what they could do for us in the line of a buffet. 4. He mentioned that he has been trying to get through to Walter Gobel's office regarding an answer to the summer transportation problem, but has not had any luck. Reports were due tonight on the accomplishments for 1992. It was requested that if you did not bring them in tonight to get them to Mrs. Roe during the week. HALLOWEEN PARTY Mrs. Korz reported that everything is all set for the 25th. Steve Johnson will be there to perform at 1:00 p.m. She has called Supervisor Smith, Town Clerk Elaine Snowden and Sylvia Holt to be judges. A week before the party, she will have all donations in and we will then be able to break them into prizes etc. She has spoken to Meadowbrook to order the donuts, apples, cider, cornstalks and pumpkins. Mrs. Roe with the help of the Seniors are working on the numbers for the costumes. It is planned that we will register all the children this year and give them any free coupons. Mr. Reimer or Mr. Rider will set up the sound system. ROBINSON LANE Mr. Miller reported that the Fall tournaments are still going on at Robinson Lane. Mr. Holt said that we are still working with Mr. Foster regarding the blacktop work and the scraping of the sod on the area just past the building. Mr. Miller also mentioned that the roof on the old part of the building will have to be replaced soon. Recreation Minutes Page 4 October 12, 1992 REESE PARK Mr. Mastroianni mentioned ~ he hasn't heard from the Hudson Valley Orienteering Club and asked if we wanted him to follow up with a phone call. It was suggested he do that. SOCCER Mr Rider mentioned that soccer might need more marking chalk for the fall season. He also mentioned that we might suggest to them that they invest in a paint sprayer and if they do buy one, would be pay for the paint? In the Fall the paint would go a lot further because we aren't cutting the grass as much. We said that would entertain the idea of purchasing the paint. Mr. Holt mentioned that the pond would not be filled in at Rockingham but that we would be putting fencing all around it. AIRPORT PARK Mr. Vorndran mentioned that Airport Park has been plowed, harrowed, and he is planning on planting tomorrow. Mr. Holt reported that all work done there so far has been done by the Town. He has been in touch with Mr. Kennedy and the Soccer people and has requested some help. He is scheduled to meet tomorrow morning at 9:00 with a civil engineer from soccer to get some advice and counsel. The intent is to get this engineer to walk the area to put elevations in place, get field layouts made, and to give advice in regard to what we can do with the area. GAZEBO Mrs. DeLisa mentioned that Ron Broadie of the maintenance dept. has done a great job making the new benches for the gazebo at the Town Hall. FIELD USAGE FEES Mr. Rider brought up the fact that soccer still owes us for field usage for their summer camp. He said that he felt that this fee should be waived. Mr. Holt mentioned that at a recent meeting with the soccer people, Supervisor Smith told Mr. Kennedy that they could up their request from the Town by $500. for 1993. Soccer was given until they receive their contract money from the Town in 1993 to pay the usage fee for this summer's camp. Mr. Holt also made note that the Town Board is reviewing our fee schedule. Recreation Minutes Page 5 October 12, 1992 CHAIRMAN'S REPORT Mr. Holt reported the following: 1. We need a P.O. for $500 for trees from D'Agostino's for Schalthaus Park. Mr. Miller noted that there had been a fire at the nursery over the weekend but it was decided that we get the P.O. in case we could still get the trees. We are hoping to get a number of flowering trees to place around the perimeter of the Park. 2. We need to write a letter to the Veteran's Hospital regarding their taking of the poles from the Park property. Mr. Holt said that a number of poles are missing and you can see where they are being dragged through the V.A. property. Mr. Miller suggested that we call them. Mrs. Roe will speak with Comptroller Ann Buckley to see if we can get a name of someone to speak with regarding this. 3. We have another problem at Castle Point. He reported that we have another hole in the fence in the back of the Park. This is the same spot that has been fixed twice already this year. It is in the back of a person's property and although we can't accuse anyone, we feel that someone must see this being done. It was suggested that we get the sheriff to go down there to see what is going on and see what we could do about it. 4. We have to move the signs at Schlathaus away from the War Memorial. The marble is suppose to come in next week with the dedication planned for Memorial Day next year. 5. Mr. Holt mentioned that we are getting the mower and truck. Mr. Vorndran will work on the specs. We will also look into state bids. 6. We will not be holding the golf clinic this fall. We only had 3 people sign up for the classes. 7. We hope to do some fencing by the volleyball court - a fence with a gate. This has to be done to prevent residents from taking the sand and also from driving in and making the area a parking lot. Quiet Acres 8. We still want to pave the basketball courts at Spook Hill and --also do the paving at Robinson Lane. 9. We still have to get the $2,000. materials for the pole building at the barn. 10. We can rent the tent from Budd's Party Tents for $70.00 for the Christmas Party. It will be a 20 x 20 tent and they will put it up. We will get a P.O. for this. We will also look into purchasing a couple of heaters. Recreation Minutes Page 6 October 12, 1992 11. On November 14, we will plan a tour of the recreation facilities for the Town Board Members and Commission Members. We would like everyone to be aware of all that has been going on in recreation for the past year. We will plan on starting at Schathaus at 9:00 and will return to have refreshments. Mr. Miller will work on an invitation and schedule. The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 on a motion by Mr. Miller seconded by Mr. Mastroianni.
