REPORT FROM JOSEPH ENNESSER
1. Grant for Schlathaus Park has been completed and is in for $62,400.
2. Dock is now out of the water and is stored locally.
3. Has not heard from Chris Bar Electric regarding the electric at Schlathaus, Robinson Lane or
Reese Park.
4. Is working on ice skating at Rockingham and Reese Park. Any ideas for wording for signs to
be placed at locations. Open skating vs hockey athletics.
5. New gates should be installed at Reese Park within the next couple of weeks.
6. We have collected at least 13 poles in Reese Park
7. Mr. DiMarco should be bringing in a resume for a maintenance worker for our review. This
person has been helping out on weekends with the men from Camp Beacon who are working
at Reese Park.
8. Castle Point Property. Should we be writing a letter to try and obtain more land. There seems
to be more property in the Town of Wappinger.
RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING
NOVEMBER 3, 1997
NEXT MEETING DECEMBER 1, 1997 AT 7:00 P.M. AT SCHLATHAUS PARK
The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation Commission was held
November 3, 1997 at Schlathaus Park, All Angels Hill Road, Town of Wappinger, Dutchess
County, New York.
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chairman Ralph 1. Holt. Others
present were Recreation Director, Gerald diPiemo, Commission Members Ronald Friedman,
Ellen Korz, and Stephen Miller.
The minutes of the October 6, 1997 meeting were approved on a motion by Mr.
Friedman seconded by Mrs. Korz with all in favor.
CORRESPONDENCE
We received a copy of the highway department inventory.
A copy of the 1997-98 Wappinger United Soccer Club roster was received and
was forwarded to Supervisor Smith to be attached with the contract. All paperwork has now
been submitted for the processing of their check.
OUTGOING LETTERS
1. A memo was sent to the Town Board requesting permission for Joseph Ennesser to attend the
National Playground Safety Institute on December 4 and 5 in Saratoga Springs. (This request
was approved at the Town Board meeting 10/27/97)
2. A memo was sent to the Town Board requesting a transfer offunds and approval to do paving
work at Schlathaus Park in front of the stage. (This request was approved at the Town Board
Meeting 10/27/97)
3. The request for payment has been sent to the D.C. Planning for the C. D. Grant for the
electric work at Castle Point Park which was finished in September.

SENIOR CITIZEN REPORT
Mrs. DeLisa was unable to attend this meeting but will be forwarding a full report
on the activities of the Seniors for the month of October. It was noted that the Elks Dinner is
coming along nicely. Mr. Holt mentioned that Metzgers has called us and has offered to donate
the turkeys for the dinner. Mr. Miller was asked to contact someone from the Elks with this offer
and have them talk directly to Andy Metzger at 297-5566. The Elks had told us that they would
need between 90 and 100 lbs of white meat for this dinner. Sign up for the dinner which will be
held on December 10, 1997 will take place on November 14th starting at 10:00 a.m. The funding
for this party is made possible by donations from the area businesses and professionals. Mr.
Miller mentioned that ifMetzgers provides the meat we will get the meal for $3.95 vs the $4.95
we originally had agreed upon.
The seniors held their Halloween party last week. They did a great job with the
costumes and enjoyed their party. Their center Christmas Party is scheduled for December 5th at
the Villa. Mrs. Roe mentioned that they are having a Bingo Bango Bongo at the Fishkill Center
on November 10th with 4 Centers - Zion, Wappinger, Beacon and Fishkill. They will be having
their Thanksgiving luncheon at the Best Western. The craft fair went well and a lot of work went
into setting up cleaning up and especially making the crafts.
The full report from Mrs. DeLisa will be attached to these minutes.
RECREATION DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Mr. diPierno mentioned that he has obtained the Sweet Adelines for entertainment
for the Christmas Tree Lighting on December 7th. There was a discussion on the parking
situation at Schlathaus for the group the night of the Tree Lighting. Last year it was really muddy
and with all the cars at the house it really posed a problem. It was suggested that Mr. Holt write
a letter to them requesting that they car pool as much as possible to alleviate this problem. If we
don't have any snow and it is cold we won't have any problems. Mr. Holt mentioned that we
should get out as much publicity as possible on this event which will start at 5:00 p.m. It was
mentioned that Little League is planning on giving out popcorn. He said that he will be talking to
the soccer representatives to see if they will again distribute something to the children. Mr. Miller
suggested that instead of making a large pot of coffee, we should have a pot of hot water which
could be used for either instant coffee or hot cocoa. We also have to set up the sound system and
make sure there are enough mikes there to project the women's voices. We will have one more

meeting before this to iron out all the final concerns.
Mr. diPierno mentioned that he has been in contact with West Point for a concert
in late April with the Concert Band. Mrs. Roe said that she had also received a call from the
West Point Jazz Band requesting information for a concert to be held sometime in June. They
were in the process of setting up their schedule and will get back to us soon.
A babysitting course has been set up for November 22nd at Schlathaus Park. The
time is set for 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 and Mr. diPierno mentioned that he had put it in the paper and
will advertise the program again. To date we have only 3 children signed for the program.
Mr. Holt asked Mr. diPierno ifhe had taken care of the summer bus transportation
charges so that we can get the funding from the County Youth Bureau. He said that he hadn't
gotten around to it yet but that he has the note on his desk. Mrs. Roe mentioned that there might
be an exchange of money due - either we owe them or they have to refund us.
Mr. Friedman asked Mr. diPierno ifhe has written his report from his trip to the
Recreation Conference in Lake Placid in May. Mr. diPierno said that it was a very busy time for
him and that he could not promise anything. He will see what he can do.
Mr. Ennesser was unable to attend this meeting but sent the following information.
1. He has completed a grant for Community Development funding for Schlathaus Park
which includes renovations for handicapped work on the house and paving work- around the
property. The grant is for a total of $62,400. Ifwe can get this grant and are able to do this
work it will maximize the use of the building.
2. The docks are now out of the water and are stored locally in Chelsea. We have secured
them right there and did not have to truck them to the bam.
3. He has been in the process of obtaining prices from Chris Bar for work at Schlathaus,
Robinson Lane and Reese Park. Mr. Holt mentioned that the lighting work at Schlathaus is for
by the driveway. Mr. Friedman suggested that instead of the light we should put two white posts
by the driveway. The headlights would pick up the driveway and you would know where to turn
in. We could put the poles a foot and a half beyond on either side and ten ft from All Angels Hill
Road If the lights were installed they would have to be on all the time. Mr. Miller also
suggested that we put reflectors on the posts.
The Robinson Lane Electric work is to put in extra power for the outside of the
building.

The third proposal for electric work is for Reese Park for lights for skating. Mr. Holt
mentioned that he was concerned about people going in there at night for skating. He mentioned
that his idea for skating would be to emphasize Rockingham Pond. It was suggested that we
should split the pond and have two thirds of the pond for open skating and one third for hockey
play. Mr. Holt mentioned that last year he had received several complaints from people who were
unable to skate because the kids were using it for hockey and were intimidating the younger
children. Mr. Friedman asked about using the pond at Kent Road and Mr. Holt told him that he
felt that the pond was too deep and was concerned about safety. At this point we would like to
pursue the Rockingham avenue since it isn't as deep and it is clean. He felt that Rockingham
should be the place to put the lights.
5. Mr. Ennesser also mentioned that the new gates should be installed at Reese Park
within the next couple of weeks. The holes have already been dug for them.

8. In regard to the Castle Point Property, Mr. Ennesser suggested that maybe we should
write a letter to try and obtain more land. We have seen a lot and read a lot about Castle Point
cutting back and maybe they would be willing to let us have more property. Mr. Holt mentioned
that it would be great if we could get the building that is down there. If Castle Point ever
becomes the area for parking for the boat ramp we would have the extra area. There would be so
many possibilities if we could obtain that property. Mr. Holt also noted that they haven't started
to bring in the fill for the landfill area.
CASTLE POINT
Mr. Holt mentioned that the bids came in for the building at Castle Point and the
lowest bid was for $77,000. The bids were therefore rejected and at the Town Board Meeting it
was decided that we would go back out to bid with the new bids to be opened on November 24th.
Mr. Holt mentioned that while he was at the Town Board meeting someone came up to him and
mentioned that they had constructed the building at Airport Park at a cost of $10,000. We are
getting a grant of approximately $30,000. and we will probably have to put an additional $47,000
to do the building under the grant regulations when we could probably construct it cheaper on our
own. But it is hard not to take the grant since it has been awarded. At the Town Board meeting
Mrs. Visconti said that maybe we should do it ourselves.

ROBINSON LANE
Mr. Friedman mentioned that Robinson Lane looked good when he was last out
there. Mr. Holt said that within the last few days we have been having trouble with grubs on
several of the fields. The maintenance guys have put down some Dylox grub control. It was
noted that we might have some work to do out there in the Spring because of this. Mr. Friedman
asked if we were going to do anything about the additional parking and handicapped parking at
Robinson Lane. Mr. Holt said that we are running out of time to do anything this fall and that we
will have to schedule it for the Spring time period. Mr Friedman mentioned that there are some
stumps in the back of the park which stick out of the ground about 3 feet which should be
removed before someone gets hurt.
RYMER PROPERTY
Mr. Holt mentioned that Mr. Paggi has put together some maps ofthe Rymer area
but we just haven't been able to get together for a site inspection. It was also mentioned that it
has recently come to light at the Town Hall that the deed has not been properly filed for this
property. Mr. Rymer was in and informed the Town that he was still receiving the tax bill for the
property. Mr. Holt mentioned that the chipper funds were left in the 1998 budget so hopefully we
will be able to purchase that in early part of the year so that we can get some work done down
there during the winter months and hopefully the deed will be turned over to the Town by then.
ADVERTISING/HALLOWEEN
Mr. Friedman mentioned that the Halloween Haunted House was great this year
but it is a lot of work for the number of people who attend.. The pumpkins that Karen carved
were great and were the highlight of the house. The tarps that Miss Gutzler purchased were great
and did the job to cover the windows. With all that effort that went in to it and the number of
people who attended, Mr. Friedman said that he won't be to anxious to do it again. Mr. Holt
mentioned that the house was great and that they all did a super job. We feel that since the
Southern Dutchess News is not free anymore that we are not reaching the residents with what we
are doing. A couple of suggestions were to advertise the fall programs in the New Hackensack
Fire Co. newspaper which is distributed free to all residents of the district and to put
announcements in the schools. It was suggested that maybe we should put together a calendar
which can be mailed out to all residents with information on the programs and at least tentative
dates so that they could call the office for more information. Mr. Holt mentioned that when we
have a full quorum we will have to discuss this further.
SPOOK HILL
Mr. Miller mentioned again that there is still debris in the woods by the building.
Maybe during the winter months it could be cleared a bit.

CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
Mr. Holt mentioned the following:
1. He thanked Mrs Korz and Miss Gutzler for all their work on the Halloween
Party.
2. We have obtained a heater which will be used for the Christmas Party in the
tent.
3. The mower was also left in the 1998 budget request.
4 . We need to look into getting a new head piece and beard for the Santa suit.
5. The Rockingham sewer plant is now out of business and they will be removing
all the pipes etc. We were asked by the Town Board to look at the area and come up with some
suggestions. Mr. Holt and Mr. Ennesser went over there and thought that this area might be a
good place to put a rollerblading court. Mr. Friedman mentioned that we will already have a sand
base. Mr. Holt mentioned that he would take a ride over to East Fishkill to look at theirs.
6. We have given a copy of our inventory to the Highway Department.
The meeting was adjourned at 8: 15 on a motion by Mr. Miller seconded by Mrs.
Korz.

NOVEMBER 1997 REPORT TO THE RECREATION COMMISSION
FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER 1997
SENIOR CITIZEN CENTER
October activities at the Senior citizen center included
the regular schedule of arts/crafts, oil painting, photo
club, exercise, line dancing, videos, bingo, puzzles,
bridge, cards and games.
The seniors held their annual craft Fair on oct. 24th.
The Fair included the sale of crafts, bake sale, Granny's
Attic, book sale and raffle ticket sales. It was a great
success.
Over 60 seniors celebrated Halloween all dressed in
costumes. They paraded through the Town Hall looking for
treats of course. There were cider, donuts, and pizza for
lunch. A treat bag was given to each senior in costume.
prizes for those who won the costume contest. A fun day for
all.
On the 10th Regina and Maria held a special craft class
to make scarecrows out of hats. They were really nice. The
class idea is quite popular. Regina and Maria will be doing
Regina & Maria will be holding a special craft class each
month besides the regular crafts done each day.
Blood pressure was cancelled this month. The monthly
birthday party was on the 16th.
The trip to Mohaonk/Winery was excellent. The seniors
had a beautiful day for this and all enjoyed it.
There are 195 seniors registered at the Center and 233 on
the waiting list.
ITEMS TO BE NOTED:
1. There will be a 3 center Bingo in Fishkill on Nov. 10th
2. Thanksgiving lunch wil be at the Best western on the
19th
3. A flu clinic will be held on the Nov. 20.
4. Dec. brings a Christmas party at the Villa BOrghese on
the 5th and the Elks Lodge on the 10th.

Are you ready for.. the whirlwind of parties? Busy days
ahead! November and December are.two very busy. months so
read this carefully so you won't miss the upooming holiday
events. ';..
First, I want to thank all of you for all your hard work
and contributions to our Craft Fair. It was a super success
thanks to all~of you. It~akes a lot of work and
cooperation and you all certainly do your part. Thank you
all. And I' want to take the opportunity to ,thank Regina and
Maria for all they do. Beside keeping you all busy, they
must find time and ways to finish up or fix all the projects
I give them to do before the Fair. These two outstandingc
Craft Teachers help,make it .possible for us to~have such a
successfulfair.'So,ifl:You ,have a chance, give them an
extra hug and let them know we all: appreciate all they ,do
for all of.us~ lam grateful :to have such great co workers.

Marsala or Poached Salmon Steak, dessert and coffeeltea. ,
The cost for those current with dues is $6.00 The cost may
vary for those'not current with dues or those who are new to
the Center or on the waiting list. You must sign up and pay
for this luncheon by Dec. 1st. There will be no refunds
after this date. Get ready for a great time! There will be
lots of surprises, good food, music by Johnny Dell and a
great day to enjoy the holiday spirit with your friends.

Spanish'classes began on Tues. Sept. 30th at 12:30p.m.
Blena Garrido" one of,.our members has offered to teach this
class. Elena has taught'forContinuing Education and lsa
native of Panama. She' is fluent in .her native language as
well as English. It is a great opportunity to expand your
horizons and learn a new language. You will have a better
understanding of other languages as well. Many of the Latin
languages have similar'sounds and meanings. Besides, who

In regard to paying'dues,many ofyou'are now paying 'your
dues on'. yearly basis ~nd for that~yoU~ Treasurers thank
you. This makes bookkeeping much easier and efficient. Many
choose to do this as they cannot be at the Center every week
and want to participate in our special events. Yearly dues
is $25.00. Many of you pay on a monthly basis and that too
makes it easier. to keep 'track of. A few of you are NOT
current wi th dues,' this ,may resul t in your paying full ",price
for the upcoming luncheons! Your Treasurer says that for
those paying dues by the month, NOVEMBBR dues is '2.00.'
Those on the waiting list are welcome to pay dues. This
entitles you to join our "out of Center" activities at a
reduced cost.
Thanksgiving is almost here.' Iwarit to take the
opportunity to thank each of you for all you do, for all you
are. Each one of you bring something special to the Center,
a smile, a prayer, a kind word, a funny joke, understanding

one thing I love about Tabby the most. Nothing

He looks to me for help. sometimes but most. of the

I brush Tabby at least twice a day. He loves it and looks
for it. First ~hing in ~he morning and last at night. I
shake his sheets out at least once a week ,and they get
washed every other week. He doesn't go out ev.er, for I'm
concerned he's clean
I love music. Not the music of today, but soft and
meanignful music. I'm sure Tabby loves it too. But when I
feel stressed out and blue, both Tabby and soft music keep
me going.
