Chevy Silverado. The recall refers to the gauges malfunctioning or sticking. A
copy was given to Bob Sheridan.

the Highwas and Recreation Departments purchase of Capital equipment.

OLD BUSINESS: 1. Listing of who will be able to attend Christmas Tree Lighting on
December 9th.
2. Mrs. Manning spoke to Aziz Ahsan about EID sign. Evidently
, Skip put up greetings on a lot of different holidays on the boards at Schlathaus.
Mr. Ahsan was asking it the same could be done during EID which takes place
twice a year, October 12 - 15 and Dec 14 - 23 this year. I explained that Mr.
Rottk,amp dictthi.s personally and I would check with the Commission to find out
what the Town policy should be.
3. Ralph to discuss letter and proposal from Chris Schoen

NEXT MEETING JANUARY 9,2007 AT SCHLATHAUS PARK
The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation Commission was held
December 5, 2007 at Schlathaus Park, 126 All Angels Hill Road, Town of Wappinger,
Dutchess County, New York.
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chairman Ralph 1. Holt. Also
present were Kay V onReyn, Acting Senior Director and Bob Sheridan, Maintenance
Supervisor. Commission Members present were Bruce Lustig, Gary Trudell, Vma
Satyendra and Jim Chappas.
Mr. Chad Ummel was invited as, a guest but could not attend.
The minutes of the November 7, 2007 meeting were accepted with no correctio~s,
INCOMING CORRESPONDENCE:'
1. Letter and flyer from the Jazz Pioneers asking to be considered for next years
Summer Concert Series. Original given to Scott Cheney. Mr. Cheney was not in
attendance at this meeting because his wife is due to have a baby any' day now. ,
2. Letter from Paggi, Martin & DelBene outlining the preliminary schedule for the
reconstruction of the Soccer Fields at Airport Park for 2008. Copies available in
meeting packets. The Town engineers were asked to look at the Airport Park
facility in regardsJQ dr~nage problems. Weather conditions are preventing them
from making~ accurate assessment so it was decided to proceed in the Spring.
3. Lette.r from the Director of Code Enforcement, George Kolb, regarding the
Posting of Unsafe Structure for the Camwath Farms mansion and Carriage House.
(Copies are available in each meeting packet.) The gates surrounding the
buildings are now up and locked. Any work to be done by outside vendors (oil
deliveries, water softener maintenance, trash removal, etc.) must go through our
maintenance dept. to gain admittance. The Dutchess Co. Sports Museum is
closed now until mid-January. A decision will be made as to accessibility at that
time. Members of the Museum asked if a walk could be constructed from the
upper parking lot with stairs leading down to the Museum further back along the
main road. Mr. Holt said "NO WAY!" Engineers would have to be brought in to
complete the task. The Museum has brought in over 700 new display pieces since
they opened three years ago.

do an audit on this account to insure its accuracy.
JIM CHAPP AS' REPORT
Mr. Chappas attended a Winter Festival in Sims bury, CT. The Town was opened
up to the residents and visitors with events going on at the different establishments. They
had food, ice sculpting, face painting, cookie decorating for kids and a fire truck parade.
Each truck was decked out in lights for the parade. The event took place from 6 to 8 pm
. and was capped off with fireworks. It was discussed that an event like this could be done
at Carnwath when it is available to us again.
Mr. Chappas also discussed the possibility of doing the Christmas Tree Lighting
on Saturday instead of Sunday. Mrs. Manning pointed out that the day of the Christmas
Tree Lighting also seems to be double-booked with the Town Trip to the NYC for the
Shopping Spree. If we did plan Saturday as an option we could then use Sunday as our
alternate day in case of inclement weather. Mr. Chappas suggested an indoor venue as an
alternate.to'Schlath~tis'Park'Mt. Holt pointed out tha;! the'object of the festivities is to
light the tree at that location. Further discussion will take place in January so that the
proper information can go into the Recreation Guide. 'Our other holiday events will also .
be discussed.
Mr. Chappas wants the record to show that he is very disappointed that Carnwath'
is not available for our Recreation events. It has been a PERFECT venue in the past for'
our Christmas and Easter events. ' It holds ~ great deal of potential.

Mr. Chappas asks the Town Board to address this committee and tell us what their
plan is as far as the roof at Carnwath is concerned. What are they doing about the roof
and the investment the Town has made in regards to this issue. In the event that the roof
collapses or is damaged further the Town Board should be "held responsible for their
irresponsibility". Mr. Chappas is aware of the referendum and deems that an
unacceptable solution to the problem.

Kay V onReyn took this opportunity to introduce herself to the Commission. She
has worked in the Senior Center for 5 years and was hired by Kathi DeLisa and
subsequently became a three-quarter time assistant to Nancy Cito. Things in the Center
are going smoothly although it is a very busy time of year. I'm grateful for the help I've
been given with someone to answer the phones.
Ms. V onReyn had a question. She received a call from a 49-year-old blind
woman who wanted t6 know if she could participate in our Senior exercise program. She
felt that since she was able to use Dial-A-Ride, used by Seniors over 60 and those with
disabilities, that the exception might carry over to the Senior Center as well. Ms.
VonReyn feels that special monitoring would be necessary. Mr. Holt felt that if we

Some will probably go toward the soccer fields and some should go toward Carnwath.
The question is - for what?
Mr. Trudell has asked Little League if they would like to use the facility for
registration, when it is re-opened. And they were agreeable. Soccer already uses on-line
registration therefore they would not need use of the facility.
Additional ideas are listed below:
· The Boy Scout Klondike Derby
· Winter activities- Cross-Country skiing, sledding, ice skating with the
proper facility set up.
· Future Museum activities - A gathering of Poughkeepsie Softball teams
from the 30's and 40's are planned for 2008.
· ,The kitchen and Cafeteria could be used for fund raising breakfasts.
· Trail expansion of the upper portion of the property.
· Use of site for the Office of the Aging Annual Picnic.
· Partner with the WCSD to sponsor field trips and nature walks.
· Set up a Pitch 'n' Putt course of 3 to 6 holes.
· . ..f.\ Craft Fair - One done several years ago was fairly successful.
· A Car Show in the fall.
· A picnic area set up with tables and barbeques.
· Use of the new kiosk to advertise all upcoming Recreation events.
· Use of grounds for Summer Concert Series. There were plans in the past
to try and get a grant for a portable stage which costs in the area of
$90,000 to $100,000. Grounds would need to be prepared and grounds
sprayed for ticks as our other properties are each year.
Mr. Holt thanked'Mr. Trudell for a wonderful job. and asks that a complete list is
made available to each Commission member to expand on each item. We will then
collate this list and send ido the Town Bo~d with. all our ideas spelled out, especially the
one that are revenue' producing.
Mr. Sheridan asked what would happen if the referendum for the roof at Camwath
is voted down. 'Mr. Holt explained that the worst case scenario would be that the roof
gives way under the weight of snow therefore making it necessary to demolish the
building. The new roof would cost approximately $700,000 (seven-hundred thousand
dollars) but ~e 4eITI.oHs~\J??,of1?e building would cost ~lo~e to $1,000,000 (one million
dollars), which add's to ilie questIOn "What were they thmking?"
MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR'S REPORT
Mr. Sheridan began by stating those things that he and his men have
accomplished. The boat docks at Chelsea have been pulled out of the water and stored,
5,000 gallons of oil have been delivered, but another 5,000 gallons need to be ordered so
that the tank will not run too low. The pool needs to be filled with water so that the

grounds. This commission agrees that the location, being so far south, would not be
convenient to most of the Town's residents. The Commission also feels that the monies
that would be required to construct such a park could be put to better use, toward the
Soccer Field for example.
Kathi DeLisa, the Senior Director before Nancy Cito, was asked if she would be
willing to help Ms. VonReyn in the Senior Center until permanent help is available to
her. She has graciously accepted.
Mr. Holt received a letter from Chris Schoen who would like to run an A.A.U.
Tournament at Robinson Lane in 2008. Proceeds would go to the Little League
organization. Before approving this venture, I would like to see exactly what Mr. Schoen
has planned and especially how he plans to document the income generated by this event
so that all proceeds go to Little League.
